14 Best cafes you must visit in Mont Kiara

Over the last two decades, Mont Kiara has evolved from its rubber estate roots into an upscale neighbourhood with a growing community of expatriates, specifically Japanese and Korean residents. Whilst it is regarded as a more high-end township compared to other foodie enclaves such as Damansara Utama and SS2 (the Malaysian slang for this is atas), that hasn’t stopped many locals from exploring Mont Kiara’s ever-growing plethora of cafes.

Indeed, there are many cafes that reflect the dominant residential makeup which results in various Korean and Japanese-inspired establishments. In saying that, there is still something for everyone in Mont Kiara, from those looking for aromatic brews to hearty brunches.

Ahead, here are the 14 best cafes every foodie should visit for their next trip to Mont Kiara!

A newcomer to the Mont Kiara scene, Cotta opened its doors just this February having previously been in Damansara Heights. Featuring an industrial loft-styled interior with plenty of plants all around, Cotta offers customers a taste of its star product: fresh ricotta. Made from scratch every day, the cafe plates up open-faced sandwiches with its homemade ricotta, which range from savoury to sweet options. The Muslim-friendly and pork-free cafe also serves pasta and several desserts. As it is located on the rooftop of Verve Shops, expect a ton of natural sunlight pouring in too!

Korean toast is sweeter than usual sandwiches as sugar is included in its fillings as well as the crust. If you’re looking for a way to start off your day, you can’t go wrong with a hearty Korean sandwich!

If you’re familiar with the Owls Cafe franchise, you’ll know that their waffles are some of the best you can find—its sister cafe Allo is no exception. What’s even more, this cafe is undoubtedly one of the prettiest in Mont Kiara. With its pastel-themed interiors, marble tables and artsy Pinterest-esque decorations, every corner of Allo is made to be photographed. It’s also a double-storey which gives the space an airy loft feel. Treat yourself to the delicious waffles or any of the Malaysian dishes and pasta while sipping on coolers, mocktails or coffee.

Coffee lovers and aspiring baristas, this cafe is a haven for you! As if the aromatic smell of roasted coffee is not enough to grab your attention, What’s On Tap’s stark white interiors are truly a head-turner. The sleek centrepiece features a line of taps which looks like craft beer would come out of it. Instead, it’s coffee in various blends and forms. The cafe doesn’t have a wide selection of pastries but makes up for it in the quality of its drinks. Try out the signature Orange Nitro Fizz which combines citrus juice and nitro coffee. For the caffeine-adverse, there are also other options such as Matcha Latte and Chocolate Valrhona.

Slow Wood Coffee

A post shared by David (@davidnakamurah)

Despite only launching in April of this year, Slow Wood Coffee is quickly becoming a local favourite. The cafe caused a buzz with its beautiful environs—the very look of a concrete jungle in the bustling town. Sit outside on a carved-out concrete enclave surrounded by lush greenery or on white wooden beach chairs under a veranda; or pick a spot inside where seven pillars of merbau hardwood trees from Terengganu protrude from the ground. The pet-friendly cafe offers a variety of coffees (using its own signature blends), kombucha, warm bagels and more.

If you’re looking for a cafe that just exudes Korean vibes, look no further. Keopi & Sul combines several features of a typical Korean-style cafe: warm and earthy tones, a cosy and minimalist design and no-frills comfort food plated beautifully. What sets it apart is an area where patrons can sit in glamping-inspired interiors. There are camping chairs, wooden crates and tepes around which makes for an instantly Instagram-worthy shot. Keopi & Sul serves Korean fusion food such as rice bowls and pasta as well as an array of desserts. K-pop fans should also keep this place on their radar as it frequently hosts K-pop events!
