Elephant Republic

If you’re a fan of both coconut and coffee, this new café in Bukit Bintang might be up your alley. Specialising in coconut coffee and tea, Elephant Republic is one of the latest cafes to attract shutterbugs with its many gram-worthy spots. Step through a white arch and you’ll already spot a few aesthetic corners—including the minimal outdoor seating area and the high stools by a small wooden counter. Feeka Coffee Roasters is no stranger to the local café scene, but it recently launched a second outlet in Platinum Park last November to welcome those frequenting the KLCC vicinity. The newer branch reflects the concrete building it occupies with bare aluminium ceilings and stainless steel counters, juxtaposed by floating planter boxes at its outdoor dining area. Like the original location, guests can expect a selection of freshly brewed coffee made from its house blends, along with an extensive food menu.

Opening hours: 8am to 11pm daily

For those who have chanced upon Optimist Coffee’s outposts at the Ampang Park LRT station or Lot 10, you’ll be glad to know that they have opened their first full-fledged café in the form of Feeling Plus (or Feeling +). Calling itself a “soul-comforting space”, the new kid on the block in Damansara Heights embodies positivity with encouraging quotes and quirky doodles scribbled randomly on the walls and furniture. Large windows frame the space, allowing ample natural sunlight in to add to the sunny mood. Of course, there’s also a respectable coffee menu for a mood and energy boost, as well as toasts and sandwiches .

Barista Guild Asia

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this quaint coffee shop in Old Klang Road is where to go for a quiet coffee break. Barista Guild Asia (BGA) puts its barista academy first before the café, so that’s how you know they’re serious about their coffee. Set it an old bungalow, the humble café serves up fresh brews and light bites with a side of rustic charm.

Located at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, this first-of-its-kind coffee bar specially caters to both day and evening drinkers. Introducing ‘cofftails’, a coffee and mocktail mix that’s pushing the boundaries of how coffee should be enjoyed. The bar’s creations blend different coffee expressions—from a classic long black to cold brew—with a range of herbs, fruits, and spices for a refreshingly unique drink. Come evening, the space turns on “night mode” to offer alcoholic versions made with Cointreau, kahlua, bourbon, and more. Coupled with its sleek white and silver interiors, this modern space sets the mood for a whole new coffee experience.

Draftsroom

Blink and you might miss Imbi’s new little coffee bar. Sandwiched in between two kopitiams (traditional coffee shops), Draftsroom is more of a nook for grab-and-go coffee but there are a few seats available should you prefer to take your time with your drink. Speaking of which, there’s a decent selection of specialty beans on the menu, as well as pastries to pair with for a quick morning or tea time fix. Design-wise, the space speaks a raw, almost unfinished look—true to the concept of a drafts room.

First featured in the January edition of #BUROEats, Hoh Coffee is a vintage-inspired coffee stop that calls Solaris Mont Kiara home. Its interiors feature understated wooden furniture punctuating a minimal white space that exudes a retro ambience, mirrored by the outdoor dining area for those who prefer an al-fresco setting. The specialty coffee shop also offers pork-free dim sum to complement your caffeine of choice, making it an ideal breakfast place in the neighbourhood.

Started by the team behind Dataran Prima’s Cream café, Cream Coffee Stand is the sister spin-off designed to cater to the corporate crowd. Situated right in front of Holiday Inn Express, the contemporary coffee stand offers a decent range of espresso-based beverages, cold brews and filter coffee, which you can also purchase to brew at home. There’s also tea for non-coffee drinkers, as well as bagels and pastries (by Beng Beng Sourdough) to grab a bite.

% Arabica

(Okay, we cheated a little with this last entry.) While % Arabica isn’t exactly new in KL, it’s arguably one of the more visually pleasing coffee bars in the city. Opened in March 2021, the Kyoto coffee brand’s global reputation long preceded its arrival on our shores. Known for its passion for coffee as much as its attention to design, the store boasts modern, sophisticated interiors with a play on mirrors and lighting. Spanish Latte is the signature drink here, but you can also choose your preferred single-origin or blended beans, or opt for the matcha latte as an alternative caffeine fix.
