Ramadan 2024: Our guide to ‘buka puasa’ buffets for iftar in the Klang Valley
Selamat berbuka!
We have hardly said goodbye to our Chinese New Year celebrations, but another festive season is soon to be upon us: Ramadan! This year, Ramadan is expected to fall between 10 March and 9 April—marking a month of fasting, reflection, community, and prayer for the Muslim population worldwide. For Malaysians, one of the most notable observations during the Ramadan season is iftar, the fast-breaking meal after Maghrib prayers that happens when the sun sets.
As Muslims only consume two meals a day during Ramadan—the other being suhur before the sun rises—you can expect to see restaurants and hotels alike going all out for iftar (also referred to as buka puasa locally). They’ll be making sure that meals are grand and more than just sustenance. Here’s our compilation of the most notable Ramadan spreads you can indulge in for buka puasa.
Note: This article will continue to be updated as more menus are revealed.
W KUALA LUMPUR
W Kuala Lumpur’s famed Bazaar Malam is back for its third year and it’s bigger and better than ever. As you step into Flock—the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant—you’ll be transported into a vibrant and lively bazaar-themed buffet with a spread spanning Malaysian delicacies and global favourites. Our favourites from the local selection include the udang harimau masak lemak, paku goreng belacan, otak-otak, and tempe kentang bercili.
At the live stations, you’ll also catch chefs preparing kebabs, baos, stir-fries, noodle bowls, grilled seafood, naan, and even sushi all made fresh for diners to enjoy. We particularly loved the mee rebus, grilled scallops, Pakistani lamb kebabs, and selection of naans.
