With its vast space that comprises a range of lifestyle and retail outlets, Bangsar South is home to a range of exciting F&B spots, many of which are neighbourhood favourites. If you’re looking to take your food adventures to this bustling pocket of Kuala Lumpur, here are eleven hangouts that will satisfy your cravings and quench your caffeine thirst.

Serving up Japanese yoshoku dishes, coffee drinks, and desserts is Sunbather Coffee at The Sphere. This tastefully simple and bright café is known for its dishes that meld Japanese and Western influences like its English Breakfast Udon, red bean butter toast, and kuro beef curry rice. Of course, don’t forget your coffee (or matcha) order from its impressive selection of specialty drinks, including its iced goma latte, cold brew with peach sorbet, and matcha yuzu lemonade. Dessert lovers also shouldn’t miss its momoko parfait and custard pudding.

Right across from Sunbather Coffee is its sister café, Take A Bow, which serves up heartier meals alongside fantastic cuppas. With its laidback vibe and woody interiors, it is a great spot to kill time with a book or to catch up with friends. On the menu, our favourites are the laksa spaghetti, chicken schnitzel, Turkish eggs, and clam chowder with puff pastry. Coffee-wise, go for one of its signature drinks—such as its Einspanner coffee or Chai Brûlée—for a unique touch to your meal.

If you have an appetite for all things grilled, Ignis should be on your must-visit list. Led by Chef Desmond Chong, the eatery tastefully blends modern European and Latin fare with Asian flairs with a farm-to-table approach. Just about everything on the menu gets some fiery treatment from its grills, including dessert. Some of our favourites include its Wagyu beef tartare with bone marrow, capellini with Hokkaido scallop and prawn, Angus beef flatiron steak, and grilled grapes with a parmesan biscuit and yoghurt dip.

4. FUKUNIKU

Life is made better with simple pleasures and we think Fukuniku’s pork hambagu rice bowls are one of them. Its most basic bowl is simply constructed with Japanese rice, a juicy pork hambagu patty, grated horseradish, and homemade sauce. The rest of the menu details different toppings—such as yuzu kosho and cheese—that you can explore for your rice bowls, which can also be made with beef patties if you prefer. Also on the menu are ochazuke options, including a heartwarming salmon ochazuke with a clear anchovy dashi.

If you’re looking for a non-coffee kick for your day, Little Beca Tea’s creative tea drinks will definitely perk you up. The opening of its big sister café, Beca Tea, made waves on the local landscape last year thanks to its vibrant and unique tea-centric menu. By blending, infusing, or topping its teas with unconventional flavours that just make sense, Beca Tea’s offerings are truly one-of-a-kind. Try its Yuzu Blaze for a light and citrus-y drink or its Mangosteen Queen for a more local-leaning refreshment.

For a no-frills and fuss-free lunch break, head to Koffie Craft, a Dutch specialty café. Whether you’re a sweet tooth or err on the savoury side of things, its menu has you covered. The stars of the show are indeed its Dutch Baby pancakes, but its Limburg waffles and breakfast plates are also favourites.
