For a soulful bowl of chicken broth ramen, grab a seat at Sri Hartamas’ latest addition, Ramen Minamo. Brought to you by famed Tokyo ramen master Chihiro Miyazaki, this ramen joint’s bowls are made fresh to order, complete with springy noodles and a heartwarming broth. In terms of its ramen offerings, there are three to choose from: shiro, shoyu, and aka. Each of its broths is brought to life by being kept at a simmer for upwards of five hours before serving. While the bowls arrive rather bare, they are accompanied by a selection of sides and sauces to add once you’ve gotten a taste of its original flavours.

Another new add to the local ramen landscape is Enishi. Located at Shoplex Mont Kiara, it serves up brilliant bowls of both soup and dry ramen. There noodles here aren’t your run-of-the-mill strands, taking on a flatter and slightly thicker shape, similar to that of linguine. On its soup side, you’ll choose from a plain dashi, shoyu, scallop stock, or yuzu shio base. Each bowl comes topped with duck slices, chashu, and more. For fans of dry ramen, its dan dan noodles should be your go to, available in a range of spice levels. Don’t forget to order your free mini rice serving to lap up your remaining sauce after finishing the noodles.

6. BOU

Get a taste of tradition in the trendy APW Bangsar space at Bou, where flames and claypots do the talking. Named after the dish—bou zai fan—itself, the corner shop serves up perfectly scorched and savoury claypot rice, much like the ones you’d find in Hong Kong’s dai pai dongs. Though there are only a handful of stoves in the kitchen, the waits are worth it as each claypot is packed full of flavour, soul, and love. Whether you go for the caramelised Signature Pork Char Siu ‘Sorrowful Claypot Rice’ or the indulgent Wagyu Karubi HK Chu Hou, each bowl ensures a consistent char thanks to its rotating stovetops. Plus, the add-on toppings and sidekick dishes (think prawn paste fried chicken boxing and deep-fried money bags) will have you leaving with your stomach thanking you.

Carnivores can come together at Taman Desa’s new Meat Attic. Creature comforts on the menu include homemade sausages, Iberico ribs, and steaks. However, supplement your meal with some of its house specials like the salt beef sandwich, corned beef garlic fried rice, and porky aglio olio.
