We’ve been doing our part by guiding you to the most notable new restaurants and cafés in our monthly #BUROEats column and for this year, we’re going to be including new bars around the area! Bringing some Latin flair to the local dining scene is Sol by The Olive Tree Group. This new entry is perched on the 40th floor of The Met, so you’re promised next level views of the city. With its extensive food menu, a vibrant cocktail programme, an impressive wine list, and a sprawling space, Sol is the ultimate destination for feasts big or small. Must-tries on the food menu include the ceviche mixto, seared king scallops, char-grilled Black Angus ribeye, claypot seafood paella, and wood-fired Pacific oysters with chorizo butter.

2. UP & AWAY

Prepare to find your new favourite bar in the Chinatown neighbourhood with the arrival of Up & Away! Though this space is set to be a destination for cocktails and music, its food menu by Alta Café will make it worth a stop for those looking for a good bite in the area. With that, one can expect their iconic Alta Burgers to be flowing out of the kitchen. As for drinks, its cocktails on tap are surefire hits, whereas its “Not Classics” list—including a Mangorita—will excite the drink enthusiast in you.

3. BOYS DON’T FRY

Get your fish and chips fix from Wisma Cosway’s Boys Don’t Fry! The restaurant is serving up its signature fish and chips (with a reworked recipe!), alongside other British classics for you to treat yourself to for the quintessential Brit Caff experience. Aside from the obvious must-have, get an order of its sausage and egg butty to really turn up the indulgence factor during your meal. It’s currently in its soft launch stage, so hours are limited but flavours are aplenty!

4. CHICKEN AND BEER

Chicken and Beer stays true to its name by serving up the killer combo that everybody loves in its very own innuendo-filled home. If it wasn’t already obvious its menu is dotted with different iterations of fried chicken, paired with different sides. But one thing remains constant here: everything goes well with PaperKite Beer and lucky for you, they’ve got it on tap. Spanning three storeys, the outlet has plenty of room for you to dig into your meals but leave the bones at the door of its resident party space: The Phuck Club.

5. FIANCÉE

Cosying up to the other eateries at The Met in Mont Kiara, Fiancée arrives as the sister café to Second Date Patisserie (do you see where this name game is going?). From within its pastry case, you’ll find freshly baked bagels, croissants, buns, and danishes beaming at you. As for hot food, its creamy prawn bisque pasta is looking to be a crowd favourite in due time. Of course, don’t miss out on your caffeine fix of the day with its house brews or a matcha latte.

6. FOREST CLOUD

Penang’s beloved Forest Cloud Beverage Company has finally made its way down the peninsula into the Klang Valley’s radar. Setting up shop along Jalan 222, the new café breathes some caffeinated life into the cosy neighbourhood with its modern space. As expected, it will be brewing some stellar cups of coffee and matcha but that’s not all. There are also pastries and gelato available for you to indulge in alongside your sips.

7. 65 ONDO

Another Penang import, 65 Ondo is finally baking in the Klang Valley at its new Cheras Traders Square location. Its multiple branches in George Town is a testament to its popular bakes, especially its butter milk pastry bread and egg tarts. Dark wood fixtures and warm lighting elevate its space, perfect for you to lounge in with some friends, a date, or your current read.

8. SHIZUKU

Fans of Japanese coffee will find a new home in Shizuku. Within its industrial interiors, you’ll find smooth brews accompanying bites and drinks. To nobody’s surprise, Japanese flavours rule the menu, featuring dishes such as unagi chazuke, nori tacos, and various pastas. Its spacious and comfortable lot also means it is the perfect place to catch up with old friends and fellow caffeine heads.

9. SUNSAN RESERVE

Coming to you from the team behind SunSan Bakes, SunSan Reserve opens its doors once the sun sets and the night owls come out to play. From 5.30pm onwards, you’ll find its bartenders shaking up creative cocktails for you to wind down with. Whether you’re in for a classic tipple or want to get adventurous with one of its bold creations like the Long Island Agar Tree, its menu has got just the sipper for you. With only 15 seats available, reservations are highly recommended.

12. 10 TEN BAKER
