A low-maintenance claw clip updo

A claw clip updo is probably the easiest thing to do on this list, and it looks so effortlessly chic while also being super secure. Still, it’s easily undone whenever you finally decide to let your hair down mid-boogie.
What you’ll need: A claw clip (the thicker your hair, the bigger the clip you’ll need)
Step 1: Gather your hair to your desired height, then twist it in on itself to create a messy bun.
Step 2: Secure the bun with your claw clip.
Step 3: Pull out a few face-framing strands and fluff up your bun as needed.
A slicked-back bun for all

Everyone loves a slick back. It’s been a go-to for celebs like Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid alike, and for good reason. Not only does it look super chic and put together, but it can turn your greasy locks from ick to chic in absolutely no time.
What you’ll need: Hair ties, hair gel, fine-toothed comb, smoothing brush, bobby pins
Step 1: Part your hair down the middle, then detangle your hair from root to end.
Step 2: Gather your hair into a tight ponytail at your desired height, making sure to keep the centre part crisp.
Step 3: Apply hair gel and start slicking your hair back with the fine-toothed comb, making sure to smooth out any bumps and lumps.
Step 4: Twist the ponytail from start to end, wrapping it around itself to form a neat bun and secure with bobby pins.
Step 5: Do a final smooth down with your smoothing brush to make sure everything is neat and uniform.

For the ladies who are looking for a little more whimsy and edge with their NYE looks, this fauxhawk is equal parts easy to achieve and head-turning.
What you’ll need: Clear hair ties, curling iron, hairspray, bobby pins
Step 1: Section your hair into five lateral parts, securing each section into a small ponytail right down the centre part of your hair.
Step 2: Wrap each ponytail around itself to form a messy bun and secure with more hair ties and some bobby pins.
Step 3: Curl any loose ends and face-framing strands.
Step 4: Set the look with a generous douse of hairspray.
Short hair-friendly space buns

Space buns are fab and functional, helping to keep your hair off your face all night long. If done right, they won’t budge either—not even through the most vigorous head shaking. Just ask Gracie Abrams—she rocked this look while performing on tour and it stayed put!
What you’ll need: Slick stick or hair gel, four hair ties, bobby pins and hairspray
Step 1: Part your hair down the middle into two sections (or four, if you’d prefer a half-up, half-down look).
Step 2: Pull the bun sections into ponytails.
Step 3: Twist one ponytail from start to end, wrapping it around itself to form a neat bun, then secure with another hair tie. Repeat on the other side.
Step 4: Pull on the bun gently to fluff it up to your preference, then secure in place with bobby pins.
Step 5: Slick back any flyaways with a little gel or a slick stick.
An elevated braided ponytail for long locks

Coquette dominated 2024, so it feels rather full circle to sport this look as we bid the year adieu. This braided bun-ponytail hybrid is so stunning, and though it may be intricate and a little complicated, the results are so worth it.
What you’ll need: Extensions (optional), hair ties, bobby pins, decorative ribbons/clips, gel, smoothing brush
Step 1: Section your hair from ear to ear and secure the top layer into a ponytail, leaving out a two-inch border at the hairline.
Step 2: [Optional for those with layers/with shorter hair] Add a few rows of long extensions at the top of the first big section.
Step 3: Add the bottom layer of your hair, the hair from your hairline and the extensions to the ponytail, slicking all the hair down until fully smooth. Leave out two strands to frame your face.
Step 4: Braid the shorter bits of your hair before tucking and pinning them down to form a bun.
Step 5: Braid all the longer parts of your hair from root to end, keeping it tight and uniform the whole way through.
Step 6: Add a few ribbons to each braid to finish off the look.
