8 Must-visit cafes in TTDI for satisfying meals and cosy interiors

Taman Tun Dr Ismail, commonly known to Malaysians as TTDI, is home to a plethora of homegrown businesses, including restaurants, cafes and retail shops. Just stroll down one of the many rows of shop lots and you’ll encounter several aesthetically-pleasing cafes and even a hippie thrift store

The mid-sized township located in Kuala Lumpur has always been a popular go-to spot for many city dwellers due to its wide variety of lifestyle offerings. Whether you’re looking to eat up a feast or relax with a cup of coffee, here are the eight best cafes to visit in TTDI that will satisfy your tastebuds and look good on the ‘gram!

Walk through a bright yellow door and you’ll find yourself in a homey independent bakery cafe that serves freshly baked goods and hearty food. Dough & Dolce is known to have one of the best (if not the best) grilled cheese sandwiches in town so their famous Chipotle Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Tomato Soup is a must-try! Other than that, the cafe also serves sweet and savoury pies, tacos, an assortment of cakes as well as pizzas and pastas for heavier meals. Even better, enjoy your dish outside on their balcony and soak up the sun while you eat!

This sun-washed cafe is a collaboration between The Roast Things coffee roasters and Bangsar South’s Sunbather Coffee. This means Neutrals has the best of both worlds when it comes to aromatic coffee and delicious Japanese sandos. Characterised by cement walls, wooden countertops and an elaborate plant wall, patrons can stay at Neutrals for a light lunch or indulge in an airy afternoon tea with their popular range of scones, burnt cheesecake, salted butter rolls and more.

Touted as a hidden gem, Aperture is located on top of a speed mart and tucked away behind a nondescript wooden door. Find it and you’ll enter a cafe promising authentic Thai dishes and an array of desserts such as macarons, strudels, cakes and the like (their Chocolate Matcha Cookie is a crowd-favourite!). With interiors that can only be described as belonging to your eccentric aunt, Aperture is filled with a myriad of vibrant plants, quirky paintings, mismatched furniture and a hanging rattan chair for the perfect Instagram shot.

Located in the heart of TTDI, Mukha is a quaint cafe that draws inspiration from a place in Yemen of the same name where traders from all over the world met and traded coffee in the 15th century. Committed to being a cafe for the community, Mukha focuses on creating a safe and comfortable space where patrons can meet, unwind and rejuvenate themselves with a cup of coffee or a hearty meal. Indulge in savoury dishes such as Smoked Lamb Shawarma, Shashuska with Sourdough and sweet delights including homemade cakes, cupcakes and more with their wide array of coffee beans.

5. The Bread Bar

You can guess from its name already but The Bread Bar is known for their high-quality bread and pastries that can take up to three days to make. Freshly baked daily, the display shelf is filled with flaky croissants, buttery danishes and fluffy sourdough bread—be sure to try their bread platter! Unlike other bakehouses that use warm earthy tones to create a homey feel, the interiors of The Bread Bar are furnished with white LED lights and grey cement walls, signalling a more modern and contemporary approach for those looking for a swankier vibe. The best part? You can stay for dinner too
