Borneo Sonic Music Festival 2023: Everything to know

If you’re still bummed about not getting your fill of an electrifying music festival in Malaysia, you won’t have to be for very long. The first of its kind in the region, the Borneo Sonic Music Festival 2023 (BSMF) is expected to also be the biggest music event Borneo has ever seen.

On 10 August, a press conference was held in which the Minister of Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that the BSMF will mark a milestone event for Borneo. “Sarawak is one of the best places to hold an event as almost every weekend, there will be activities held in the state,” he shared.

The BSMF is happening on 6 and 7 October 2023 and is anticipated to host around 30,000 visitors at the Sarawak Stadium with its exciting lineup of local and international acts such as Taeyang, CL, EXO’s Suho and more.

BSMF ticket prices and floor plan

There are a total of six categories to choose from and each ticket comes with a two-day pass. As of now, there are no single-day tickets to the festival.

Where to buy tickets to BSMF

  • VIP: 9am
  • CAT-1: 10am
  • CAT-2: 11am
  • CAT-3: 1pm
  • CAT-4: 3pm
  • CAT-5: 5pm

One email address can buy up to four tickets. To purchase, visit BSMF’s official website here.

The BSMF venue

The music festival will take place at Sarawak Stadium with a capacity of 30,000 people. After concern was raised regarding the free seating arrangement, organisers of the event took to social media on 15 August to highlight their strategies for better crowd control and safety.

Entry into the event grounds will use a ‘first-buy-first-entry’ approach. If you are successful in securing a ticket, you will receive an email that contains a sequence number which will also act as your queue number into the venue. Only 500 people per batch will be let in at one time. Do also take note that the wristband you receive will serve as an e-wallet at the venue for cashless payments. The wristband should also not be removed for the entirety of the two days.

Who is performing at BSMF?

For the first-ever BSMF, the full lineup is nothing short of spectacular for fans of K-pop, EDM, hip-hop and more. Taeyang, a member of the legendary boy group Big Bang, and K-pop’s ‘baddest female’ CL who recently performed in Malaysia at Good Vibes Festival 2022, will be headlining the two-day event.

They will also be joined by other famous K-pop artists such as EXO’s leader and vocalist Suho and Girls Generation’s Hyoyeon, who goes by Hyo for her solo works. Popular local acts such as Dolla and Ning Baizura are also set to grace the stage. Here is the complete list of performers:
