Mesmerising Met
As the fashion world converges at the Met Gala for this year’s ‘The Garden of Time’ theme, we’re diving into the standout beauty moments that we can’t get enough of.
Celebs put their best foot forward on this year’s red carpet, each bringing their unique interpretation of the theme to the soirée. Stars like Kylie Jenner and Phoebe Dynevor went the classic route, opting for more pared-back, no-makeup makeup styles. Gigi Hadid and Amelia Gray drew inspiration from vibrant blooms, sporting bold lip colours. Others like Zendaya, Rachel Zegler and Doja Cat, had a more subversive take on the theme, playing on darker motifs and accenting their looks with a set of sparkly smokey eyes. In short, this year’s makeup game was nothing short of spectacular.
Join us as we relive the top 15 beauty moments from the 2024 Met Gala.
Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa turned heads with her sultry, all-black Marc Jacobs attire, accessorised with a large black feather boa and Tiffany & Co. silver jewellery. The singer’s makeup featured a soft smoky eye that complemented her fiery cherry-red waves. Lipa opted for a natural, yet glamorous finish to her look with a hint of shimmering eyeshadow and a barely-there nude lip.
Emma Chamberlain
Emma Chamberlain’s Met Gala makeup put moody brown shadows front and centre, which paired perfectly with her chocolate lace Jean Paul Gaultier dress. Makeup artist, Kelsey Deenihan, created a gothic yet neutral look using Lancôme products, focusing on deep shades from the Hypnôse Palette and a reflective metallic shade on the lids. Chamberlain’s lip, lined with Lancôme Le Lip Liner in 283 Amandelle and topped with L’Absolue Rouge Drama Matte lipstick in 510 Divine Idylle, completed the sophisticated yet edgy ensemble.
Michelle Yeoh
Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh wowed on the red carpet, sporting a chic new bob. The Malaysian actress, known for her signature long locks, paired her new hairstyle with a Balenciaga silver dress that shimmered like tin foil. Yeoh’s makeup was kept natural and understated, allowing her metallic ensemble to shine.
Phoebe Dynevor
Phoebe Dynevor becomes the first to grace the Met Gala in a Victoria Beckham ensemble. Now let’s talk about her radiant skin—credit goes to Sofia Tilbury, niece of beauty guru Charlotte Tilbury. Using her aunt’s best-sellers, like the Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wand in Dream Pop and Hollywood Beauty Icon lipstick in Hollywood Vixen, the makeup artist created an ethereal look with fresh skin, rosy cheeks, and rosebud lips, perfectly fitting the gala’s magical theme and complementing Dynevor’s VB gown.
Kylie Jenner
The cosmetics mogul graced the steps of the Met Gala in an ivory Oscar de la Renta gown, channelling Old Hollywood glamour a la Marilyn Monroe. For her makeup, Jenner opted for natural blushing tones to complement her sleek ballerina bun adorned with baby-pink roses. This choice highlights Jenner’s recent shift in style from the bold and contoured looks of the King Kylie era to a more romantic and minimalistic approach to glamour.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner becomes the first to flaunt Alexander McQueen’s fall 1999 Givenchy haute couture look, fitting her perfectly—the epitome of supermodel elegance! Her glam, crafted by Jenner’s longtime makeup artist Mary Phillips, enhances her natural beauty. Paired with the model’s long black hair, styled back into two twists, Jenner looks absolutely ethereal. Reflecting on her 2014 Met Gala debut, Jenner reminisced, “I was using Kim’s hair and makeup people,” a testament to her evolution as a style icon over the years.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid took a classic glam approach for the Met Gala this year in Thom Browne’s garden-inspired dress. Her standout features include a bold red lip, elegant pin curls in her blonde bob, and subtle diamond accessories. What stole the show, however, was Hadid’s innovative French manicure with 3D yellow roses, a nod to the gala’s garden theme. Thanks to celebrity nail artist, Mei Kawajiri, nail aficionados were in for a treat with this unique twist to French tips.
Amelia Gray Hamlin
Amelia Gray Hamlin made a striking entrance, embracing the garden theme with a 3-D gown that transformed her into a living terrarium. The model gelled her long black hair with spidery strands, rocking a bold and vampy violet lipstick. Ahead of her debut, Hamlin shared on her Instagram a glimpse at how she got ready, including a facial appointment with celebrity-loved aesthetician Edyta Jarosz.
Amanda Seyfried
Lancôme products were used to get Amanda Seyfried red carpet ready for the 2024 Met Gala. The star looked radiant with fresh skin, subtle bronzing, and fluttering eyelashes. In a bold move, she wore a statement bright purple lip that matched the purple florets on her silver Prada gown. Her nails, of course, were also painted an icy shade of silver. Tying in the whole ensemble was Seyfried’s silver-platinum hair, topped with a jewelled leafy headpiece, which is a departure from her signature long blonde locks.
Charli XCX
Charli XCX rocked a goth-inspired ensemble as a guest of TikTok at this year’s Met Gala. Her custom Marni dress paired perfectly with a spikey hairdo, soft brown glam, and dark reddish brown lip. The pop star worked with the avant-garde makeup artist, Isamaya Ffrench, to create the sculpted taupe lids, while Matt Benns crafted a punk yet intricate hairstyle, channelling Nina Hagen with a touch of Brat style.
Zendaya
Zendaya captivated the carpet with two looks to capture the ‘Garden of Time’ theme. Collaborating with Sheika Daley, her makeup took a moody turn, featuring glossy deep burgundy lips and red eyeshadow—a notoriously tricky shade to pull off. What’s truly striking is the co-host’s daring choice to rock skinny brows, reviving a much-debated ’90s beauty trend that may just inspire others to grab some tweezers and start plucking…

Rachel Zegler
Rachel Zegler transformed into a modern-day princess for this year’s red carpet, foreshadowing her upcoming lead role in the live-action Disney adaptation of Snow White. Her enchanting look featured an icy blue sequined Dior gown, complete with a striking pop of shimmering blue eyeshadow. Her skin glowed with a glassy finish, adding to the enchantment of her appearance. To complete her fairytale transformation, she adorned herself with diamond earrings, adding a touch of sparkle fit for a princess.
Doja Cat
It’s hard to follow up on the star’s feline-inspired fit from last year, but somehow, Doja Cat managed. The rapper’s 2024 Met Gala makeup, crafted by renowned artist Pat McGrath, made a bold statement. Her look featured sultry bronze eyes outlined with kohl, paired with a nude ’90s supermodel lip. McGrath added a unique touch with shimmering “tears of joy” cascading down her cheeks, created using glitter. The eyes were accentuated with gilded cat-eye makeup using McGrath’s Bronze Seduction palette, finished with lots of mascara for added drama.
Janelle Monáe
Janelle Monáe stunned in a custom Vera Wang gown made of holographic discs that accentuated her figure. The singer’s side-swept hairstyle, crafted in partnership with Olaplex, featured a “soft sculpted crop” by hairstylist, Nikki Nelms. Using Olaplex’s No.4 Bond Maintenance shampoo and conditioner for prep, followed by the No.3 Hair Perfector for added shine on the day, Monáe’s look was meticulously designed for a precise yet soft and radiant finish.
Ugbad Abdi
Ugbad Abdi radiated in her spidery sequined ensemble by Prabal Gurung, accentuated by a mesmerising makeup look. The model’s soft smokey eye and white eyeliner added depth and allure to her gaze. The pièce de résistance was an exquisite headpiece that crowned her look with regal elegance. Before her grand entrance, Abdi gave her followers a behind-the-scenes peek on her Instagram Stories, showcasing her preparation process, which included skincare by Dr. Barbara Sturm.
