Style Spotlight: 13 Bold looks Zendaya wore that won the internet over

Zendaya is the moment and you can’t tell us otherwise. From her jaw-dropping film premiere looks to her fashion week ‘fits, the actress and singer never fails to impress on and off the red carpet. With Dune: Part 2 set to hit the cinemas on February 29 , she continues to make fashion headlines at the film’s world premieres practically every other day—rightfully deserving to be in our Style Spotlight column this month.

Whether it’s an ethereal Cinderella-inspired gown or a masculine oversized power suit, Zendaya (last name Coleman) nails every single outfit, every single time. Talk about a fashion chameleon. No less credit should be given to her famed celebrity stylist Law Roach, who’s responsible for many of our favourite looks. Still, only she could rock them all so confidently and effortlessly.

The Euphoria star was named the face of Valentino at the end of 2020 and went on to front their striking Pink PP campaign. As of last year, she has been appointed as Louis Vuitton’s ambassador—a partnership leading to a slew of viral red-carpet moments. (You’ll see them in a bit.) The 27-year-old’s presence is also felt in the worlds of jewellery and cosmetics, having recently starred in campaigns for Bulgari’s Icon collection and Lancôme’s Idôle fragrance.

Ahead, we pay tribute to Zendaya’s best looks of all time (read: the style moments that broke the internet—and there were many!).

Dripping wet

Before we move on to looks from the film’s second installation, here’s a memorable number from the first Dune premiere at the 2021 Venice Film Festival. Zendaya wore a jaw-dropping wet-look Balmain leather dress with a thigh-high slit that screamed sexy. We still can’t get over this one.

Let’s not forget the time Zendaya arrived on theme for the London premiere of Spider-Man. Thanks to Roach once again, the female protagonist of the film was dressed in a gorgeous custom Valentino Haute Couture dress with a plunging neckline and spiderweb motifs. It came with a matching spider-shaped mask that also designed by the Italian fashion house. She completed the look with a pair of shiny black crystal Christian Louboutin pumps—spot on.

Warrior queen

She’s looked like a goddess. She’s looked like a mermaid. But at the 2018 Met Gala, Zendaya showed up like a warrior in a Joan of Arc-inspired Versace masterpiece. She paired it with silver pumps and copped a short fringe and wavy bob cut—looking equally fierce and breathtaking at the same time.

After embodying a heroine, Zendaya was the picture of a princess in the 2019 Met Gala—Cinderella, to be specific. Designed by Tommy Hilfilger, her light blue dress personified the Disney character to a T, complete with a hairband, choker, pumpkin carriage handbag and a pair of glass slippers—one of which she left behind in true Cinderella fashion. More impressively, her dress lit up on the red carpet with the touch of a magical wand by her Fairy Godmother (AKA stylist Law Roach, of course).

Zendaya appeared on many a best dressed list for the 2021 CFDA Fashion Awards when she showed up in this custom Vera Wang two-piece ensemble featuring a red bandeau top and matching puff maxi skirt. Her stylist Law Roach completed the look with long box braids and diamonds by Bulgari. Unsurprisingly, Zendaya brought home the Fashion Icon Award that night!

At the 93rd Academy Awards, Zendaya donned a custom-made yellow Valentino Haute Couture gown that sent the internet into a fashion frenzy. Paired with platform pumps by Jimmy Choo and $6 million worth of Bulgari jewellery, it’s not hard to see why. Fun fact: the dress was also glow-in-the-dark. And if you ask us, the Oscar for the Best Supporting Actress that Sunday should go to Zendaya’s mermaid-inspired wavy hair.

All-black affair

During Paris Fashion Week SS23, Zendaya arrived the Valentino show in a glittery all-black getup. The sheer catsuit piece was emblazoned with the house’s logo and layered with hot shorts and an oversized leather blazer. Now that’s what we call a front-row look!

It’s obligatory to include one of Zendaya’s (several) shocking pink outfits, and this one she sported at the Valentino Paris Fashion Week AW23 comes top of mind. Her bold pink suit was adorned with 3D flowers, which she complemented with a pair of towering Valentino Garavani platform pumps. Très chic!

Mumbai muse

Zendaya turned heads at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) Gala in Mumbai, India when she showed up in this breathtaking midnight blue Rahul Mishra saree. The ensemble consists of a triangle bralette covered with gold-leaf filigree, a swath of sheer crystal-embroidered fabric that fans out into a full-length sheer cape, and a flowing skirt hand-embroidered with beaded gold birds and intricate floral details. What a dream!

Zendaya made her Paris Fashion Week debut at the Louis Vuitton SS24 show in a stunning scuba-style figure-hugging white dress. With its two-way zip that was pulled down to reveal a deep V neckline and a thigh-high slit, the outfit highlighted her sensual style in a way that only makes one gasp in awe and adoration.

Coming up roses

Trading her usual hot pink numbers for a lighter shade, Zendaya wore a Valentino gown complete with Bulgari jewelry for the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The dress is adorned with roses from the hem up to the waistline, showing off her softer, feminine side.

That spiral dress

One stunning pick from her Dune: Part Two press tour outfits is this elegant white cut-out dress by Alaïa. Named “La Robe Spirale”, which means the spiral dress, it features a thigh-high leg slit, a full-length skirt and cut-out spiral bodice that reveals her toned torso. Paired with white Louboutin heels to keep it minimal, this look is every bit as iconic as the Eiffel Tower in the backdrop of this photocall at the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris.

Of course, we’ve saved this viral piece for last. Not long after gaining attention for her spiral gown, Zendaya broke the internet again with this robot-esque suit from a 1995 Manfred Thierry Mugler collection. Only a true queen of the red carpet can make an appearance like this and make it a hit. Suffice to say, it’s only February but this girl is already killin’ it in 2024. We can’t wait to see more!
