Mother’s Day Special: Mother-daughter duos are the new power couples of fashion

There’s no shortage of nepo babies in Hollywood, especially among mother-daughter pairings. Some of the coolest gals in the industry get it from their mums, ‘like mother like daughter’, it’s a no-brainer! Despite their questionable clothing choices (sometimes), mothers are the ones who built the foundation for our love of fashion. Some of the most stylish women we know not only take on their mother’s good looks but also their style sense and impeccable taste.

From the Fendi family to supermodels Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber, we highlight some of the most iconic celebrity mother-daughter duos in honour of Mother’s Day to show how style (and good genes) passes through generations of strong women.

1. Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter

Blue Ivy Carter, just 12, is already a fashionista, thanks to her mother Beyoncé. From her early Grammy bespoke Dior moment to the crystal-encrusted Alexander McQueen blazer she wore to a premiere, she’s no ordinary kid. Following in her mother’s footsteps, quite literally, Blue Ivy mastered her choreography on the Renaissance World Tour. Now set to star alongside Beyoncé in a Lion King prequel, she’s not just her mother’s protégé but an emerging style icon, proving that age is just a number.

2. Kim Kardashian and North West

Kim Kardashian and North West epitomise the modern era of celebrity influence in fashion. Kim’s rise to fame as a reality TV star, on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, has been mirrored by North’s mini-fashionista status with her touch of edgy elegance. Their coordinated outfits, luxury designer ensembles, and front-row appearances at major fashion events make them a dynamic duo that garners immense attention across social media platforms, solidifying their status as style icons of the digital age.

3. Lisa Rinna and Amelia Gray Hamlin

Amelia Gray Hamlin, from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is making a splash as a model, taking cues from her mum Lisa Rinna’s style prowess. At 22, she’s strutting for top brands like Diesel and Vivienne Westwood, turning heads with edgy looks. Lisa Rinna, her biggest cheerleader, flaunts Amelia’s runway walks and even shares her wedding dress and vintage treasures with her daughter. Amelia’s rise echoes the Hadids’, blending her mom’s unique fashion sense with her own runway flair.

4. Silvia Venturini Fendi and Delfina Delettrez

The Fendi family needs no introduction. From Anna Fendi, who revolutionised Fendi’s leather and jewellery sector, to daughter Silvia Venturini Fendi, creator of the iconic Baguette bag and current creative director of Fendi accessories, menswear and children. The four generations of women from the iconic fashion house are no short of successful women. There’s also granddaughter Delfina Delettrez, an accomplished jewellery designer who joined the family business just last year as creative director of jewellery.

5. Yolanda Hadid, Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid

Before their modelling careers took off, the Hadid sisters were The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills kids. Both Gigi and Bella appeared on the hit reality TV show alongside their mother and fashion OG Yolanda, who graced glossies such as Australian Vogue and Grazia back in the ’80s. All three women took to the catwalk together for Off-White’s Autumn/Winter 2020 show.

6. Vanessa Paradis and Lily-Rose Depp

With rosebud lips, ripe apple cheeks and effortless French chic style, the striking resemblances between Lily-Rose Depp and mother Vanessa Paradis runs deeper than looks alone. Both are muses to Chanel and exude an air of je ne sais quoi cool every time they step out.

7. Lisa Bonet and Zoë Kravitz

Both style icons in their own right, it’s always a fashion moment when Lisa Bonet and Zoë Kravitz appear side-by-side. The pair are undeniably the coolest mother-daughter duo out there. While the achingly cool ’90s actress forged the path with her dreamy, bohemian repertoire of relaxed silhouettes, eclectic prints and fun accessories, Kravitz followed in harmony with her own contemporary embodiment of effortless downtown chic for the next generation.

8. Pat Cleveland and Anna Cleveland

Known for her energetic catwalk performances and effervescent personality, Pat Cleveland was a muse to everyone from Yves Saint Laurent and Halston to Salvador Dali during the ’60s and ’70s. The icon and cancer survivor was one of the first African-American models in the industry, walking in the legendary 1973 Battle of Versailles fashion show and appearing in images by the world’s best-known fashion photographers. It’s no surprise that her daughter Anna has followed in her mother’s stilettos, appearing in her first fashion shoot at just 10 days old and becoming a major campaign girl and fashion week fixture.

9. Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber

When it comes to Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber, the phrase ‘like mother, like daughter’ really does apply. The ’90s supermodel and daughter are total twins, often looking more like sisters than mother and daughter, with their similar style and industry presence as mega-famous models.

10. Carolina Herrera and Carolina Herrera de Baez

Behind luxury fashion label Carolina Herrera is another mother-daughter team full of creativity, curiosity, consistency and competence. While established designer Carolina Herrera built her eponymous label to international acclaim with her signature sophistication, daughter Carolina Herrera de Baez brought the brand’s House of Fragrances to new heights, with the iconic 212. In 2015, de Baez also unveiled the Herrera Confidential collection comprising of six fragrances as a tribute to her mother.
