8 Coolest gelato places to try in the Klang Valley

Is it just us, or is the heat getting more and more unbearable lately? Enter our saviour: a scoop (or two) of gelato.

In case you didn’t know, gelato is actually the Italian word for ice cream. The process of making gelato begins with a similar custard base as ice cream, but what sets gelato apart is that it has a higher proportion of milk and a lower proportion of cream and eggs (or sometimes no eggs at all). This makes it much, much creamier. Because it’s churned at a slower rate than ice cream, less air is incorporated into the mixture, thus giving gelato a denser texture. The main ingredient of gelatos always tends to shine through because of the lower percentage of fat.

So whatever the reason—be it the heat or you’re just craving a sweet treat—here are eight gelaterias in the Klang Valley you need to visit.

1. PAOLO PAOLO

Paolo Paolo may be the new kid on the block, but it has already gained an impressive following. Gelato lovers always seem to be down for a Paolo Paolo scoop and sometimes the line even extends outside their doors—yes, even on weekdays! Its gelato is handcrafted in the store daily and each scoop is utterly dense and creamy.

One thing that sets Paolo Paolo aside from other gelaterias is that the store rotates its flavours everyday. The flavour selection is also rather unique with choices like lemon mascarpone and banoffee pie, pink guava and asam boi, and pear and vanilla sorbet from their sorbet range, which aligns with  its aims to bring out your childhood memories or experiences. Each cup or cone also comes with an added dollop of a second flavour of your choice—a thoughtful touch that lets you indulge in two flavours in one order.
