Dewakan and Gen Named in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ 51-100 List for 2026
Flying the flavour flag
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants has announced its extended 51-100 list for 2026 and two of our very own Malaysian restaurants have made the cut!
Ahead of its live awards ceremony in Hong Kong this 25 March 2026, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants has released its extended 51-100 list for the year. Featuring another 50 of the region’s most acclaimed restaurants, the list puts the spotlight on even more restaurants who deserve their laurels beyond its main 1-50 standings. This year’s rankings sees 12 new entries and nine re-entries from cities such as Bangkok, Kyoto, Taipei, Kanazawa, Busan, Makati City, and Chengdu. Below, we introduce you to the two Malaysian restaurants that have made the cut, as well as the recipient of the One to Watch Award.
DEWAKAN – NO. 62

Kuala Lumpur gastronomic institution Dewakan makes another appearance on the list, coming in at No. 62, a whopping 22-spot jump from last year’s No. 84. With chef Darren Teoh at the helm, Dewakan has continued to position itself amongst the best of Malaysia’s dining landscape with its highly intelligent and off-piste interpretations of hyperlocal flavours. Plates here showcase the best of Malaysia’s endemic produce, presenting them on plates that impress palates and inspire conversations.
GEN – NO. 89

Penang’s Gēn, a dining destination for heartfelt reconstructions of Malaysian cuisine, has re-entered the listings at No. 89, a few years after its last appearance. At Gēn, diners can expect clean, textural, and soulful modern plates that tell the stories of Malaysian ingredients. Chefs Johnson Wong and Yau Chin’s deep appreciation and respect towards our local landscape is highly evident in each of the restaurant’s seasonal menus. Dishes rely on the team’s childhood memories and anecdotes without falling into the cliché, thanks to their playful plating and refined flavour combinations.
SAN, SEOUL – NO. 54

The recipient of this year’s One to Watch Award is none other than Seoul’s San. Chef Seong-hyun Jo is in the lead here, bringing his expertise from his tenure at The French Laundry, Geranium, and other globally renowned kitchens to the Gangnam district. Since its opening in mid-2024, this subterranean restaurant presents diners with unique and balanced plates that are the products of chef Jo and team’s explorative natures. Think modern lobster jeotgal (salted lobster) and sundae bibimbap (Korean blood sausage mixed rice) made with squid ink rice.
