Style of the Week: Margot Robbie, Jenna Ortega, Anne Hathaway, and more!

What a week this has been! Starting with the 2024 Golden Globes that took place on the 8th of January, the days that ensued were filled with fabulous style moments, marked by plenty of noteworthy events. From the Governors Awards to private luncheons, and red-carpet premieres, the week was brimming with captivating style statements in the glamorous realms of film and TV. Yes, we’re talking about sexy cut-outs, layers of tulle, high-shine sequins, timeless silhouettes and even top-to-toe leather. Ahead, we’ve curated a roundup of some of the most impressive looks from the week spanning January 8th to January 14th, 2024.

Ava DuVernay

Before the Oscars ceremony is held each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences typically holds the Governors Awards, recognising outstanding lifetime achievements in film. The esteemed filmmaker graced the occasion in a black velvet bustier gown by Louis Vuitton, featuring white cotton poplin padded sleeves complemented by elbow-length velvet gloves. Additionally, she wore a white gold and diamond necklace from the Louis Vuitton High Jewellery collection.

Greta Lee

At the same event, Asian-American actress Greta Lee commanded attention in a striking red-hot ensemble. She was dressed in a bright, viscose bouclé dress with padded details and silver rocket mules from Bottega Veneta—what a vision!

Greta Gerwig

Could it be the year of the Gretas? We spot yet another polished red carpet look, and this time, it’s from the director of Barbie, the 2023 Blockbuster of the Year. Gerwig attended the Governors Awards in the iconic Dior wool bar jacket, a white cotton shirt, and a black pleated skirt, emanating powerful feminine energy.

Ayo Edibiri

Dior gets another mention as The Bear star Ayo Edibri donned a stunning off-white Dior Haute Couture ensemble at the AFI Awards, featuring an ecru wool vest and trouser combo. Completing the look, she wore a pair of pointed pumps in the same colour scheme.

Margot Robbie

At the same awards event–which honours the year’s most significant achievements in American cinema—Robbie proves that the ‘Year of Barbie‘ is not even close to over. Killing all her looks as per usual, she channelled the fashion doll in an SS95 Chanel two-piece look, originally worn in the ‘90s by Supermodel Claudia Schiffer.

America Ferrera

It appears to be another fashion triumph for the Barbie family this week as Ferrera made a bold statement in an all-leather ensemble on the red carpet. Also attending the AFI Awards, she showed up in a sleek, strapless, corseted leather dress designed by Monique Lhuillier.

Emma Stone

A longstanding muse and brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton, Stone graced the 2021 AFI Awards in Beverly Hills, donning its SS24 Ready-to-Wear look, styled by Petra Flannery. Despite its minimal design and tone, the outfit was elevated with a playful and sporty touch through the addition of a black and white checkered belt reminiscent of a race car flag.

Elizabeth Debicki

Men’s tailoring will never go out of style, and The Crown actress Debicki beautifully exemplifies this with this ensemble. At Tory Burch’s annual Emmy nominees luncheon—honouring the women transforming the landscape of television—she wore the New York label’s contrast collar poplin shirt, black crepe trousers, and Jessa pumps. Insanely chic!

Gugu Mbatha-Raw

For the New York City premiere of her latest Netflix movie, Lift, in which she stars alongside comedian Kevin Hart, Mbatha-Raw looked absolutely stunning in an ethereal grey Molly Goddard number. The evening gown, adorned with layers of tulle and a ruched upper bodice, exuded an exquisite, princess-like allure.

Jenna Ortega

If there’s one person who knows how to infuse fun into both fashion and beauty, it’s Ortega, as evidenced by her playful beauty looks and red-carpet hits. The 21-year-old actress opted for a charming Valentino cut-out ensemble at the screening of her latest thriller-comedy, Miller’s Girl. Despite the dress being entirely white, it is far from plain. The layers of flower petals on the bust add dramatic details, and the short length contributes to its overall flirty charm. The beaded bracelet and ribbon choker provided the final whimsical touches to her look.

Jessica Chastain

For her appearance at the National Board of Review Gala in New York City, Chastain truly embraced her screen siren persona. The star donned a captivating magenta Vivienne Westwood ensemble, showcasing a waist-cinching corset bodice and a flowing floor-length skirt. She kept her accessories minimal, opting for a one-layer multi-coloured diamond necklace to complement the allure of her outfit.

Anne Hathaway

And finally, saving the best for last, Hathaway was spotted at the same event as Chastain, looking as stunning as ever. Opting for timeless glamour, she graced the occasion in a Giorgio Armani gown with a flattering low-cut and body-hugging design that accentuated every curve of her beautiful figure. The black sequined dress sparkled elegantly under the camera flashes.
