Met Gala 2021: The best jewellery and watches seen on the red carpet

The Met Gala came and went, and for this year, its star-studded beige carpet parade gave us a slew of different celebrity interpretations in the name of American fashion. From Western themes to American sports-inspired looks and a renewal of old Hollywood glamour, fashion was brought out in full force by buzziest stars, courtesy of the biggest luxury houses and emerging American names, to celebrate the opening of the Costume Institute’s first exhibit of the year, ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’.

Amongst all the bespoke gowns and jaw-dropping statements, a whole lot of bling was also seen throughout the evening, worn in the form of various styles to add an extra dose of glamour and further the references of their look. While stars like Kaia Gerber and Zoe Kravitz displayed a sense of pared-back elegance, opting for single pieces to complement their outfits, others draped themselves in diamonds to prove that more is really more––as exemplified by Rihanna who adorned herself in over 267 carats of diamonds.

On the men’s side, Timothée Chalamet and Kid Cudi made the case for men’s jewellery in a demonstration of their unique styles (the former paired two 1928 Cartier brooches to his suit while the latter sported a one-of-a-kind commissioned Kaws x Ben Baller necklace), while others flexed their wrists in some of the most heavy-hitting timepieces out there.

Scroll on for our top picks of all the watches and jewellery seen at the 2021 Met Gala:

Rihanna in Bvlgari, Maria Tash and Thelma West

The Grammy-award winning musician paired archival diamonds from Bvlgari in the form of two necklaces, two bracelets and a single high jewellery earring. She also had on a black enamel ring from Nigerian jewelelry designer Thelma West and custom ear pieces from cult jeweller Maria Tash.

Billie Eilish in Cartier

The Met Gala co-chair channeled ’50s Hollywood glamour with the help of Cartier, who supplied her with 30 diamonds and 18-karat white gold pieces. This consisted of high jewellery platinum diamond earrings, three Reflection de Cartier white gold bracelets, the Cartier Essential Lines bracelet, and 25 diamond rings and wedding bands––making her the celebrity who has worn the Cartier pieces in any red carpet setting.

To complement his dressy-casual outfit, Bieber went for a gold-on-gold-on-gold look with a Rolex Daytona timepiece to match his mini hoops.

The bling is rumoured to be worth around one million US dollars, and went perfectly with his Bape x G-Shock DW-6900 watch, which has been decked out in custom gem-setting by the Los Angeles jeweller.
