Checking in: Grand Copthorne Waterfront is an escape for your mind, body, and soul

Towering over the Singapore River is the Grand Copthorne Waterfront hotel. One of the landmark hotels along the Robertson Quay, this 5-star luxury accommodation is one that ticks all the right boxes. Just last year, the hotel underwent major renovations, updating its rooms, common areas, elevators, function spaces, and more. Its facelift also embraced the greener side of life, in line with the Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Hotel Association’s Hotel Sustainability Roadmap.

Also new to the hotel’s offerings are wellness programmes that offer a break for your mind, making each stay here an all-encompassing retreat. Now officially fully opened to travelers from all over the world, the Grand Copthorne Waterfront is ready to welcome its guests through its doors.

We recently spent a weekend across the causeway and got to call it home for two nights. During our stay, we explored every corner of the property and all that it has to offer. Here is a quick recap of our experience at the hotel and why we think it is a great retreat for you and your well-being.

With over 570 rooms across three categories, it’s safe to say that Grand Copthorne Waterfront has got something for everyone. Whether you’re travelling with family, flying solo, or in for a quick getaway with your partner, you’re sure to find a room that fits your fancy. From the Grand Deluxe Room to the Grand Waterfront Suite, every abode is prepared with your comfort in mind. Each room has been updated with tasteful and modern fixtures, guaranteed to make each stay a pleasant and memorable one.

During my stay, I was put up in the luxe Premier Club Waterfront King room that came with stunning views of the Singapore River and Marina Bay. The king-sized bed was plush and an absolute dream to jump into after a long day. There was nothing more relaxing than kicking up my feet with a show playing on the flat screen Smart TV and the Singapore skyline shimmering under the night sky right outside my window. In the mornings, I had zero complaints drawing back my curtains to the same view.

Spanning 34 square metres, the room was incredibly spacious and comfortable, perfect for a couple on vacation. In the bathroom, there are designer amenities made by Christian Lacroix that add a touch of French elegance. On top of that, I had the luxury of choosing between a rain shower or a bathtub when it was time to wind down. Being in a Club Room also came with its perks as I got complimentary access to the Executive Lounge at any time during the day, including breakfast!

A GREENER FUTURE

In tandem with the hotel’s sustainability movement, single-use plastic bottles have been eliminated from use at Grand Copthorne Waterfront. Frequently seen in hotel rooms all over the world, they’ve been replaced with a filtered drinking water dispenser in every room. That way, you also never have to worry about running out of H2O.

Each room is equipped with in-room technology that has helped reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint by 25 per cent. This includes motion sensor technology that can automatically dim lights when no movement is detected in the room for an extended period of time. Plus, you’ll spot a plethora of local produce on its restaurants’ and in-room dining’s menus. This initiative is part of the hotel’s effort to not only lower the distance each ingredient travels, but also showcase the flavours of Singapore (including its famous signature Singapore Laksa).

FEED YOUR SOUL

Speaking of food, a stay at Grand Copthorne Waterfront will also take care of your appetites as you can choose from its various restaurants to nourish yourself. The hotel’s all-day dining venue, Food Capital, is not your typical hotel buffet. Featuring an extensive selection of dishes that span cuisines from all over the world, you’ll be spoilt for choice. From sashimi and fresh seafood on ice to hearty roasts and Tandoor grills, the food options are virtually endless. If you happen to be staying over a Sunday, you can’t miss its Epicure Brunch that extends over three of the hotel’s restaurants and features 15 live stations.

Feeling fancy? Make a reservation at Sansara, its upscale North Indian restaurant frequented by hotel guests and locals alike. Master Chef Pannalal Nath masterfully creates dishes that look as vibrant and bright as they taste. You can choose from a prix fixe menu or its a la carte selection so your meal is tailored to the occasion. I got to sample a range of its star dishes—including its Kumbh Ki Galouti and the Soya Chaap Hara Pyaaz—that gave me a delicious snapshot of what its menu has to offer. I particularly enjoyed its naan options, made fresh and perfectly seasoned to pair with every curry served.

For a laidback riverside dining experience, opt for a meal at Riverside Terrace. Recently relaunched, the venue offers alfresco seating facing the Singapore River. On its menu are local delights and international staples, including the hotel’s special Traditional Village Fried Rice and Josper grilled steaks. If you prefer indoor seating with some live music filling the air, opt for the Lobby Lounge. You can unwind with a cocktail or a glass of wine and enjoy the river views. If you’re peckish, choose your bites from its tapas menu or go all out with its afternoon tea set.

Last but not least, Grand Shanghai Restaurant is the hotel’s Chinese cuisine specialist, which showcases Shanghainese cooking in its opulent space. Its menu is fully a la carte so you can choose your own culinary journey, starting with cold appetisers and ending with sweet desserts. The special Peking duck and suckling pigs are obvious headliners, perfect for grand celebrations and occasions.

CLEAR YOUR MIND

As part of its revamp, the hotel is also introducing a brand new wellness programme, so your stay is a break not only for your body but also for your mind. Those who want to get some movement in during their stay can also head to the hotel’s pool, tennis courts, or fitness suite. On top of its stay and dine promotions, the hotel also recently introduced a Yoga and Stay experience. Guests in Club Rooms got complimentary access to two yoga classes with the hotel’s wellness partner, Brandon Chong. I was one of the lucky few who got to stretch my stressors away with Chong, rounding off my relaxing weekend with Grand Copthorne Waterfront.

The hotel has also partnered with Free Spirit—Singapore’s first and biggest alcohol-free bottle shop—to offer guests who are alcohol-free more refreshment options during their stay. These pioneer offerings are just two of a few initiatives that the hotel has lined up, ready for guests to take advantage of later this year.

In summary, Grand Copthorne Waterfront is a solid choice that I would return to if I was ever in the Lion City for a quick getaway. With easy access to public transportation and its prime location, the hotel is a convenient and luxurious choice for travellers that value comfort, style, sustainability, and wellness.
