With Christmas festivities (sadly) over, the next big thing to celebrate is the arrival of a brand new year! If you don’t have plans to ring in 2023 yet, there are plenty of countdown parties happening around the Klang Valley that you can be a part of. Ahead, we’ve compiled seven fun things to do during this exciting weekend:


1. Witness the hills come alive in the Sound of Music musical at Istana Budaya

When: 27 December 2022 to 15 January 2023

Where: Istana Budaya

The hills are calling! Celebrate the coming of a new year in the gorgeous Istana Budaya by catching the Sound of Music live. The timeless musical is now on its world tour, with performances running until 15 January 2023. Significantly, 17 talented Malaysian child actors were chosen from hundreds of applicants to star as the von Trapp children! From a fun rendition of Do Re Mi to the nostalgic Sixteen Going on Seventeen, you’ll be singing along to every tune of this beloved musical.

2. Dance the night away at MoMo’s countdown party

Where: MoMo’s Kuala Lumpur

It’s only good vibes down at MoMo’s Kuala Lumpur where various local DJs bring their freshest beats to the countdown party. Featuring Undergroove, Munjiy, and DJ duo Azim and Johan, the boutique hotel will be overtaken by hip-hop and R&B mixes all night long as you dance into 2023.

3. Catch the fireworks and fire-eating shows at IOI Shopping Malls

Head to a shopping mall for a night of fun activities! Both IOI City Mall and IOI Mall in Puchong will feature on-ground activations such as fireworks, magic shows, roving buskers, Fire Pyro and sizzling Fire Eater shows that will welcome the new year with a literal bang. IOI City Mall will also see performances by well-loved local artists such as Hydra, Ziana Zain, Geraldine Gan, Masdo and more whilst IOI Mall Puchong celebrates 2023 with the likes of Rynn Lim, Uriah See, Phei Yong, and more.
