East Imperial Gin Jubilee KL makes a comeback after three years

Fans of gin, rejoice! East Imperial Gin Jubilee Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s premier gin festival, finally returns after three years with a two-week-long festival this month. Set to take place from May 15 to May 27, 2023, this year’s event will see a slew of exciting activities happening at participating cocktail bars across the Klang Valley.
For context, the last edition of the festival took place in 2019 and turned out to be the biggest gin event that year—so you definitely won’t want to miss this, especially if gin is your favourite spirit!
This year’s event—presented by premium beverage producers East Imperial and organised by craft spirits distributors Wholly Spirits—will see a total of 20 bars vying for the crown of ‘KL’s Best Gin and Tonic’. The festival kicks off with a customary Opening Party on May 15 at Wet Deck, W Kuala Lumpur, before culminating with the highly anticipated Gin Lane finale on May 27 at Sentul Depot.
“We’re really excited to bring back the Gin Jubilee this year after three years,” Wholly Spirits Managing Director and Founding Partner Shawn Samuel said. “The 2019 edition of the Gin Jubilee drew over 4,000 gin and tonic lovers for the closing Gin Lane party, and we were looking forward to topping that the following year, but unfortunately, the pandemic prevented it from happening.”’
“This year, we’ve got 20 bars from all over KL and PJ taking part, each coming up with their most creative take on the Gin And Tonic, in order to win the best gin and tonic in KL prize.”
PARTICIPATING BARS
Each bar will be given one of eight partner gins and a selection of East Imperial tonic waters to craft a signature gin and tonic cocktail, which will compete for the coveted title. Avid bar hoppers and G&T enthusiasts can look forward to innovative creations by Asia’s 50 Best Bars including Bar Trigona (No. 29 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2022 and Best Bar in Malaysia from 2020-2022) and Three X Co (No. 47 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2021).
The festival also offers the perfect opportunity to check out (or revisit) some of KL’s new and exciting bars such as Reka:Bar, 720s, Bar Terumi, Rakh, Jus, AlcoHall, Remedy, BAC, and Triptyk. Other popular venues including Woobar, Gekko, Frank’s Bar, The Vault, Concubine, Botakliquor, Ikiya 2.0, Brooklyn Bar, and Skullduggery will also be showcasing their unique gin concoctions throughout the festival.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Customers are invited to be part of the public panel of judges by voting for their favourite drink. To vote, all you have to do is visit any of the participating bars, take a picture of the competing G&T, and post it on Instagram with the hashtags #EastImperial and #GinJubilee2023, and tag the location of the bar. Don’t forget to drop by the closing Gin Lane party on May 27, 2023 at Sentul Depot to sample all the G&T creations and find out which one will be crowned the winner!
