As the KL and PJ area welcome a new host of restaurants, cafés, and bars every month, we’re on a mission to make sure you are pointed in the right direction—and August is no exception. Whether you’re on the hunt for a new date night spot or just need a new lunch hour destination, reading this list will do you some delicious good! Below, you’ll find the latest edition of #BUROEats with 15 fresh openings that we think you should add to your foodie radar.

1. TRATTORIA MIALINO

The team behind Basil Gourmet Store have revealed their new digs at REXKL with the opening of Trattoria Mialino. Here, you’ll find your fix of Italian comfort food, complete with all of the cuisine’s staple flavours, in its casual setting. Start your meal with its frutti mare frito misto and M&M (deep-fried mozzarella with mortadella). Then, head into its list of heavy hitters—sandwiches, pastas, and folded flatbread—for the main event. We’re liking the sound of its guanciale pepe flatbread, pesto porchetta flatbread, and nduja puttanesca.

2. ZAATARU

Give your palate something to be excited about with a visit to Zaataru. This new TTDI eatery from chef Joel Kirkyk and team blends the best of Levantine flavours with Japanese instincts. With this unorthodox combination, you can expect all sorts of funky and fun small plates, made with the distinctive aromas and elements that the two cuisines are known for.

3. SUSHI BELL

Ding dong, a new Japanese dining experience has arrived in the heart of KL! Sushi Bell, located within the TSLAW Tower, brings some fun modernity to its plates. Its omakase menus start from RM168, including seasonal bites and fresh sushi. Those who prefer to keep things light can choose from its a la carte menu, which will be welcoming rice bowls soon. Meanwhile, its lounge and bar space also serves as a little sanctuary for those who simply want to kick back with a drink and conversation.

4. AKAMI IZAKAYA

Paralleling Sushi Bell’s launch is the opening of Akami Izakaya just next door. Also located on the same floor of TSLAW Tower, this eatery leans on the more casual side of things, focusing on comforting bites and easy-to-enjoy drinks. On the menu is an assortment of classic izakaya fare from kushiyaki to rice bowls. Do note that it is still in its trial run phase so it final touches are yet to be ironed out!

5. OPEN TABLE

Your mid-pickleball meals have never looked this good! Open Table is finally pulling out the chairs for diners at Sentul Depot, complete with a menu of crowd pleasing plates. Whether you’re popping by for some fuel to go with your sweat sesh or a full meal while watching your friends on the courts, you’re sure to find something to fit your appetite. Some plates we think you’ll love include its stracciatella pesto pasta, chilli shrimp tartine, and Caprese salad.

Noodle fiends have yet another place to add to their radar with the opening of The Awesome Wang in SS2. Taking centrestage at the restaurant is the unlikely duo of Teochew noodles and cocktails. Its menu includes both soup and dry variations to cater to every palate, plus some skewers and small bites. As for drinks, you call the shots (literally) by filling out a form of some sort to choose your poison.

If you like your sandwiches thick, then you need to pay attention here. Sando-Icchi is now your go-to for Japanese milk bun stacks that don’t hold back on filling and flavour. The signature at this Publika eatery is the Big-Size Felix Steak Sandwich, made with just one ingredient: steak. For something a little out of the box, look to its peanut butter bacon double beef cheese sandwich for everything you need. Other standouts include the fried shrimp sandwich and chilli cheese beef sandwich.

8. ETERNYL CORNER

There are plenty of seating options (and plug points) available here, which makes it a superb spot for those who want to stay a little longer to get some work done. Its selection of baked goods will prove to be delicious company, enjoyed alongside a cuppa of your choice.

Cream and Culture has finally found a home in its first-ever brick-and-mortar space and is now serving up scoops of kefir ice cream in Sunway. The star of this show is none other than kefir, the gut-friendly, probiotic-packed ingredient cultured milk that won’t irritate your bowels. In its display case, you’ll find all sorts of fun flavours from lemon blueberry to durian.
