Somehow, we’ve officially made it past the halfway point of the year! We’re kicking it off with plenty of new eats across cuisines and we’re bringing you along for the delicious ride. With the opening of Steppes Mont Kiara and the continued growth of the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, there is much to explore this month. On our list, you’ll find a host of fresh faces breaking onto the scene as well as new locations from familiar names. We’ve gathered a rather comprehensive list for this month’s #BUROEats, so you’ll waste zero time scouring the internet and get to your next great meal ASAP!

Coming to you from the team behind Fifty Tales, Jalinan joins the TTDI neighbourhood with its selection of Malaysian noodle bowls and more. Its menu is a mouthwatering study of our local cuisine, its cross-cultural origins, and developed identities. You’ll find their own takes on familiar dishes such as nasi ulam recreated as a bowl of dry laksa ulam. A meal here will help you deepen your appreciation for our vibrant cuisine and even some of the lesser-known ingredients that we can find right here in our backyard.

2. FUJIN RAMEN

Fujin joins the local ramen scene with its opening at the buzzing new Steppes @ Mont Kiara. Within its minimalist interiors (plus some outdoor seating), you’ll find steaming bowls of tori paitan broth ramen alongside other Japanese-Western favourites. So far, the star on the menu is without a doubt its signature Fujin Tori Ramen, but don’t miss out on other plates such as the karaage and duck minidon.

3. SONNY BAGEL SHOP

Malaysia’s first wood-fired bagel joint has arrived with the opening of Sonny Bagel Shop at JAM PJ! Its bagel sandwiches have quickly garnered a loyal following in its early weeks, consistently selling out on busy days. Its menu has an impressive mix of both basic and speciality combos with its Downtown Satay, Tuna Melt, The Hot Chick, and Holy Lox being chart-toppers so far.

4. GYUSEI GYUKATSU

You can put your gyukatsu cravings to rest as Gyusei Gyukatsu is bringing its popular golden cutlets to Bukit Damansara! Its menu details a range of sets that you can choose from to suit your tastes, including a seafood option for when red meat just won’t cut it. Expect the gyukatsu to be perfectly breaded and fried, coating a juicy Wagyu bite with some added smokiness from the charcoal grill.

The flavours of Pantai Timur have landed in Bangsar with the opening of Rumoh Mekda. A casual and cosy hangout, the restaurant has the charm of a lived-in home adorned with wicker furniture and colourful fabrics. Its menu includes dishes such as nasi kerabu, patin sambal tempoyak, and even oxtail singgang—giving diners a taste of Kelantan and Terengganu right here in KL.

6. KOHA BISTRO

Those looking for a new brunch spot can hit up Koha for some hearty plates that are driven not by cuisine, but by appetite. The menu here is based on what its team deems as feel-good food, so expect to see dishes that tug on the heart strings, while giving your palate something to be excited about too. Highlights include beef trip with salmoriglio in bean broth, chicken paté with toast, clam pasta with ginger dressing, a house-special Koha Fried Chicken, and a Sabah octopus risotto.

Another new feel-good spot worth checking out this month is Restaurant Nude. Its menu is dictated by modern European plates. Try its steak frites for a classic that will never disappoint or go for its beef ragu for a little hearty carb-y treat. And as a nod to its dessert-forward beginnings, make sure to include an order of strawberry pavlova or warm blueberry cheesecake for your sweet treat.

There really is nothing like a hotel breakfast. Even those who claim to have no appetite in the morning will crumble for a good ol’ continental (or Pan-Asian) breakfast buffet! Well, now you don’t have to wait for a getaway to enjoy that morning time luxury! Café Conti is here to take your breakfast order with its menu full of all the classic fix-ins you’ll need to start your day off on the right foot. So far, its pancakes, crabby eggs benedict, and English breakfast have become crowd favourites but we’ll leave it to you to find your favourite.

9. POURNAMA

Along Jalan Tun H S Lee, PourNama joins the Hup Qing community as its resident coffee specialist. The laidback hangout has a reliable selection of caffeinated drinks for you to kick back with, alongside a selection of pastas to fill your tummy if needed. Those visiting during lunch hours will also get to pick up its lunch set for a simple but satisfying midday meal.

Joining the growing lineup of listening bars and cafés around the Klang Valley is Volume. The centrepiece of the space is without a doubt its wall of 400 vinyls that will turn heads from miles away. Although personal turntables aren’t available here, you can still count on its DJs to keep things smooth and easy all day long.

A new cocktail bar has risen in the Chinatown neighbourhood and it goes by Poo Loong Co. Run by the talented team behind the now-closed Up & Away, the new bar can be your new go-to for classic cocktails with a smart twist. However, some of its own signature cocktails will also steal the show—go find out for yourself!
