Hello, 2024! To kickstart the new year, we’ve rounded up all the latest cafes and restaurants in the Klang Valley that have popped up on our radar. Among them include a Latin American restaurant and bar at The Exchange TRX, a bakery cafe for sweet tooths in SS2, and a Sichuan hotpot kitchen at a new hotel in KL.

Nestled on the top floor of The Exchange TRX, Amazonas is the latest restaurant by the Kenny Hills Hospitality Group. Offering Latin American cuisine, the restaurant and bar concept features sharing plates with a focus on open-fire cooking, as well as fun cocktails and late-night DJ fiestas. Reflecting the region’s vibrant culture and tropical setting, Amazonas will immerse patrons in a lush dining atmosphere, in addition to panoramic views of the city from its rooftop level.

2. Mellow Wine

A new wining and dining room in Section 17, PJ beckons those who seek to unwind over a glass (or bottle) of natural wine paired with sharing plates. Introducing Mellow Wine, which reflects its name with its snug, relaxed ambience and warm staff—AKA “walking wine menus”—who will take guests through the variety of white, orange and red natural wines on display. Customers are also welcome to taste three selected house pours that are rotated weekly, before deciding on their preferred label to indulge in. As for the food menu, expect a plethora of small and big sharing plates with global influences, including vegetarian-friendly options.

4. Warung Eropa

Fans of Balinese fare, you’ll want to check out Warung Eropa at the Dining Terrace in The Exchange TRX. Originating from Kuta Utara, this outlet marks its first Malaysian outpost, bringing the Indonesian island’s beloved traditional dishes to our shores. Expect specialities like Bebek Goreng (fried crispy duck), Rawon Malam (beef soup), and the classic Mie Goreng, alongside a selection of tropical cocktails. Interior-wise, the space is imbued with refined, modern Balinese touches to complete the experience.

Primarily serving hotpot, the menu presents an extensive range of fresh ingredients from high-quality beef to premium seafood and vegetable platters. Additionally, there are a la carte dishes curated by a Sichuan-born chef for those who enjoy dishes with some heat. Easily distinguished by its dark wooden storefront featuring a revolving door, the bakery cafe is a sanctuary for pastry and dessert enthusiasts alike. 12. The Ottoman KL

If you’ve yet to try Balkan cuisine, bookmark The Ottoman KL in Menara Ken TTDI for your next gastronomic adventure. Led by a Bosnian-born chef, the restaurant incorporates recipes that represent the Balkans, comprising Bosnia, Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Serbia. Its charming interiors are adorned with photo frames depicting the region’s history, as well as colourful carpets and floor tiles reflecting its culture.
