#BUROEats: 11 New cafes and restaurants to try in the Klang Valley in February 2024

It’s a brand new month and you know what that means: brand new eats. As usual, we’ve curated a collection of eateries and cafés that have popped up on our local scene for you to make your way through. While January started off strong with a bevy of impressive and exciting restaurants and more, February is also coming in hot with its own army, ready to impress. Whether you’re on the hunt for Keralan seafood with a kick or a new café with plenty of sunlight, we’ve got the lowdown on where you have to eat this month.

1. PICKLE DINING

Pickle Dining may be small in size but it sure is mighty in flavour. Led by Chef Danial Thorlby, the restaurant’s tasting menu is a tale of Thorlby’s culinary career—which includes stints at Ladurée in Paris and the world-famous French Laundry in Napa Valley. Dishes here are rooted in French techniques but will take you on a voyage through the world’s most distinct flavours and cuisines. We’re talking plates of mangrove jack fish ceviche with coconut nước chấm,  grilled sirloin with black garlic aioli, and other communal dining-friendly dishes. As its name suggests, pickled and fermented foods take the lead here too and you’ll spot them everywhere: in sauces, as garnishes, and in jars on the wall lining the cosy and rustic space.

Feliz, located in the city centre’s Avenue K shopping mall, is dedicated to the flavours and aromas of Peru infused with inspiration from other cuisines such as Japanese. Its Tartare de Atun Nikkei is constructed with fresh tuna, a crispy egg, avocado, and caviar and has become a crowd-favourite. Meanwhile, the empanadas combine crispy puff pastry with juicy beef tenderloin or Peruvian lamb stew. Another menu highlight is the Gunkan Anticuchero, a bite-sized treat comprising diced marinated seafood and fish, sushi rice, and a crispy nori wrap. Don’t forget to browse its cocktail menu for some tipples to wash down your bites with.

Leave it up to the chef while you’re here with its omakase menu, which promises the freshest catch every day. 6. SAJ BISTRONOMY BY LEEN’S

Bringing modernity to Middle Eastern cuisine is SAJ Bistronomy. Much like its sister restaurant Leen’s, SAJ Bistronomy puts bold flavours on the forefront with class and thoughtfulness. Chef Ameer Alzalek of Leen’s fame is also at the helm here, leading his team through their one-of-a-kind recipes that have proven to be a hit with diners so far. Standouts on the menu include the charred chilli hummus—which combines chillies, olives, coriander oil, and water celery—and crispy Syrian rice. The Hokkaido scallops crudo is another creative dish that showcases the extent of Chef Ameer’s talents.

This is not your average soft serve spot. Sōfte is bringing the best of the beloved Japanese ice cream to Kuala Lumpur in its whimsical and playful cups. Don’t expect your run-of-the-mill soft serves here as you’ll see creations that are topped with playful additions like matcha sponge cake, coffee purée, and more. So far, we’re loving its Mashup soft serve—a combination of butter pecan and chai—and its matcha-loaded Mint vs. Matcha flavour.

Another café to add to your list is Flapdoodle in Taman Desa Petaling. Its menu is as fun as its name, detailing pastries—including round croissants and adorable tarts—and coffee. Its minimalist interior is marked by a circular window that lets you peer into its quaint and cosy space. Other than the usual caffeine suspects, you can expect to catch a few specialty coffee drinks like its signature banana latte that is topped with a caramelised banana. Pair this with a banana loaf or go for its citrus tart if you love some tang in your meal.

If consuming more fruits and eating clean were on your list of resolutions for 2024, Murray’s Smoothies should be your next stop for a quick meal. Its menu consists of smoothies, juices, salads, bagels, and more—all perfect for a post-workout meal or a midday pick-me-up. Using lesser-known but highly beneficial ingredients such as Valerian and tiger milk mushrooms in its smoothies, each sip will not only be good for your tastebuds but also good for your soul. We also love the peanut butter and banana bagel and Korean spicy chicken rice bowl that are perfect for filling big appetites.
