“As we reveal the third edition of the Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2025, we are truly impressed by the remarkable progress of Malaysia’s culinary landscape,” shares Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide. “From preserving cherished family recipes to embracing sustainability with our first Michelin Green Star restaurant, these establishments reflect the heart and soul of Malaysia’s culinary heritage. We are excited to celebrate the passion, creativity, and dedication that make this country’s cuisine special.”
ONE MICHELIN STAR
There are a total of six one Michelin-starred restaurants on the list this year. In Michelin’s words, one Michelin star signifies a restaurant with “high-quality cooking, worth a stop”. Maintaining their one-starred status are Au Jardin, Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery, Beta, and DC Restaurant.
They are joined by two newcomers to the category: Molina and Chim by Chef Noom, both of which are located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The former, led by Dutch chef-owner Sidney Schutte and head chef Guillaume Depoortere, specialises in contemporary cuisine, combining the best of Nordic and French sensibilities with subtle Asian twists. Meanwhile, the latter brings the fiery flavours of Thailand to your plates presented in refined modern ways, courtesy of chefs Noom and Willy.
TWO MICHELIN STARS & MICHELIN GREEN STAR
Dewakan retains its title as the sole two Michelin-starred establishment in Malaysia. In Michelin’s books, the two-star status is a display of “excellent cooking, worth a detour”. In a surprise move, the establishment was also awarded the country’s first ever Michelin Green Star. According to Michelin, the Green Star is “an annual award which highlights restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices”.
BIB GOURMAND
Twelve restaurants join the ever-growing list of Bib Gourmand venues that offer “exceptionally good food at moderate prices”. The total number of restaurants now sits at an impressive 56 across both Kuala Lumpur and Penang. New to the list are: Coast by Kayra, Foong Lian, Leen’s, MTR 1924, and Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles from the capital, as well as BM Yam Rice, Laksalicious, Lum Lai Duck Meat Koay Teow Th’ng, Ravi’s Claypot Apom Manis, Serabai Istimewa, Super Star Koay Teow Soup, and Winn’s Cafe from up north.
MICHELIN SELECTED
This year’s list features ten new honorees, bringing the total number of Michelin Selected dining establishments to 80. Restaurants on this list cover a wide range of cuisines from street eats to highly refined dining destinations. The debutants include: Atelier Binchotan, Bar Kar, Blanc, Christoph’s, Firewood, Jaloux, Lucky Hole, Nyonya Willow, Potager, and Terra Dining.
SPECIAL AWARDS
As they do every year, Michelin also recognises individuals in the industry who constantly push the needle on the job. This year, four Special Awards were handed out to top figures in the service, sommelier, young chef, and new opening categories. Azmi Ahmad Kamal of Chim by Chef Noom took home the Service Award, whereas Han Lai from Terra Dining was presented the Sommelier Award. The Opening of the Year title went to Molina, while Waymann Cheong from Lucky Hole claimed the Young Chef Award.
