#BuroEats: 5 New places to visit in KL for July 2017

1. Mad Hatter Desserts

The “Dessert King” and runner up of MasterChef Asia Season 1, Marcus Low has finally opened his own shop in Damansara Utama and living true to his nickname, the array of sweet treats is unique, playful and delicious all at once. The Claypot Rice, for example, features barley, glutinous rice pudding, rice milk jelly, crispy rice, bamboo leaf foam and rice milk snow ice. It’s not surprising that his desserts are complex-yet-tantalising-sounding—the Modern Durian Crème Brûlée with Kopi O’ Foam recipe he shared with us was evidence enough.

Address: 19 Jalan SS21/60, Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya

Opening hours: 12pm – 10pm (weekdays), 12pm – 11pm (weekends), closed on Tuesdays

2. Modern Society

There’s a new place in town that takes pride in its interior (a bar made of marble from Volakas, Greece), food (expect unexpected combinations of flavours) and drinks (an extensive cocktails menu). For those who enjoy drinking games, one of the two main areas called The Gallery offers facilities for them such as Beer Pong and Flip Cup. Not to mention, ladies get cocktails for only RM2 every Wednesday.

3. Foret Blanc

We previously featured Foret Blanc as one of the Malaysian Instabakers to consider hiring for a wedding cake. Since then, they’ve continued baking amazing-looking cakes and desserts till recently when they took it a step further by opening a cafe. With plenty of natural lighting and adorable sweet treats, the place is altogether very Instagram-worthy. One of the most popular items on the menu is the Banana Leaf Waffle which transforms vade into a waffle form.

4. Ziffy

Relatively new in the local cafe scene, Ziffy serves a ‘rojak’ menu of Melbourne-inspired brunches with a local twist. Not to mention, almost every corner of the cafe is Instagram-worthy. Apart from the mouthwatering items, do give the Boss Mojito (carbonated coffee with lemon, lime and mint) a try.

If good coffee is what you’re after, this is the place to visit. The primary business here is The Roast Things, a specialty coffee micro-roaster who roasts coffee for around 10 cafes in Malaysia and sells their own retails packs. Cream is the cafe part of the business where you’ll be able to enjoy a cuppa as well as cakes and sandwiches.
