From exciting local bazaars to immersive pop-up exhibitions, here are seven fun activities to add to your weekend plans:

 

1. Support local brands at the KLove Market

When: 5 to 6 November 2022, 11am to 6pm

Where: KLoé Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

Price: Free entry 

This weekend, KLove Market returns to KLoé Hotel, the Bukit Bintang boutique hotel known for its support of local artists and artisans. The market will take up the hotel’s entire second floor and turn its rooms into pop-up boutiques for a unique shopping experience. Specially curated by Traders Market, it will feature 18 local merchants offering a range of products spanning fashion, beauty, lifestyle and home decor. While you’re there, don’t forget to head over to KLoé Hotel’s Living Room for their City Pop event, where you can enjoy bops from DJs with some scrumptious bites and drinks.

2. Listen to your favourite anime soundtracks by KLPAC’s String Orchestra

When: 3 to 6 November 2022, 8:30pm (3-5 November), 3pm (6 November)

Where: Pentas 2, KLPAC

Price: RM68

If the mention of Joe Hisaishi, Hayao Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli is enough to send your heart aflutter, then this event is for you. This coming weekend, KLPAC’s String Orchestra sets its sights on an exciting mash-up of soundtracks from classic Japanese anime. Over 40 musicians will be performing tunes from Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Way, My Neighbour Totoro, and more. Apart from these much-loved songs, another highlight is solo pianist Maxy Chan, who made history as the first Malaysian to win Gold Awards at the prestigious Asia Piano Competition 2013 and 2014 in Taiwan and South Korea, respectively. Catch Chan in action and watch your favourite anime soundtracks come to life this weekend.

3. Discover what your colour story is at Jotun’s pop-up exhibition

When: 1 November to 3 December 2022, 11am to 9:30pm (Thursdays), 11am to 8pm (Tuesdays to Fridays, except Thursdays), 10am to 9:30pm (weekends), closed on Mondays

Where: The Paper, APW Bangsar

If you’re thinking about giving your space a facelift, take a look at Jotun’s recently launched Global Colour Collections for 2023 which features 21 timeless hues. They are categorised into three themes, ‘Serene Presence’, ‘Naturally Grounded’, and ‘Curated Living’. The shades were made in Jotun’s colour technology lab and offer a palette of colours ranging from warm neutrals, calming greens to statement reds. To view the colours in person, Jotun has created an immersive and interactive pop-up exhibition where you can get live colour consultations with in-house colour experts, design workshops, music performances, and more exciting activities.

4. Ride the Hallyu wave at Korea Fest 2022

When: 4 to 6 November 2022, 10am to 10pm

Where: LG Oval, 1 Utama Shopping Centre

Avid consumers of Korean content should find their way to One Utama Shopping Centre for the Korea Fest 2022, which promises a three-day immersive Hallyu experience from K-Beauty, K-Culture, K-Performances to K-Food. The lineup also includes live Taekwondo performances, K-pop dances, VR experiences, hanbok photo-taking opportunities, amongst other fun cultural activities and workshops.

5. Watch the documentary Malaysia’s Last Tigers to find out how you can help this endangered species 

Did you know that Malayan Tiger numbers have significant dwindled from over 3,000 to just 150 tigers over the last century? This was only one of the shocking discoveries revealed in the documentary Malaysia’s Last Tigers: The Battle to Save the Malayan Tiger which took over three years to film and complete. Find out what NGOs such as RIMAU, Perak State Park Corporations and the Department of Wildlife are doing in their conservation efforts to save this majestic species from extinction. Over 4,000 camera traps were set up in the lush rainforest of Taman Negara that covered over 40,000 square kilometres to study the Malayan Tiger for the country’s first National Tiger Survey.

6. Head over to Kedai KL’s Lesgo pop-up market

Kedai KL is back with yet another fun pop-up market, this time in collaboration with Lesgo. Get your Christmas shopping done early by checking out local vendors selling artisanal products, leather goods, wooden crafts, desserts and more.

7. Tune in to groovy disco jams at Late Night Frequency’s latest album launch

When: 5 November 2022, 5pm onwards 

Where: The Bee, Publika

Price: RM65 (online tickets), RM80 (door price)

If Tony Manero from Saturday Night Fever was real, he would attest that a night of disco is a good night indeed. Head over to Publika’s The Bee to catch Late Night Frequency’s brand new album launch, Diskografi. Not only will you get to move your feet to some funky jams from the disco band (as well as other special guests), there will also be an art exhibition, VR machine, and music video screening to enjoy.
