#BUROEats: 8 New cafes and restaurants to visit in the Klang Valley in November 2022

Where to eat in the Klang Valley this month: A Japanese fine dining fusion concept in Bukit Jalil, a modern restobar at APW Bangsar, and a Bohemian-inspired rooftop cafe in KL, among others

1. Ignis

Headed by Chef Lroy Lim (who formerly helmed Willow at W KL), Ignis is the latest bar and grill to open in Bangsar South. The name is inspired by the Latin word for fire, signalling its open kitchen woodfire grill and flaming menu. Drawing from modern European and Asian-inspired influences, the sizzling joint focuses on a farm-to-table concept with dishes that celebrate locally sourced ingredients fresh from Malaysian farms. It is currently open for lunch and dinner, and can also accommodate special events in its private dining rooms.

Address: G-02A, Ground Level, The Sphere, No. 1, Avenue 1, Bangsar South City, 8, Jalan Kerinchi, 59200 Kuala Lumpur

From the same team behind the well-loved CC by Mel comes Zen by Mel, a Japanese fusion fine dining concept. Located just a block away from its sister establishment, the restaurant boasts an intimate, zen-like atmosphere to feast on curated omakase-style menus with hints of modern Japanese and European influences. The 13-seater main room, also called the Chef’s Orchestra, features an open kitchen where guests will be treated to live demonstrations throughout the meal. There’s also a private room dubbed the Zen Chamber for groups of four to six diners to celebrate special functions.

Also new to the Bukit Jalil scene is Togo, where you’ll want “to go” to for a delicious meal surrounded by aesthetic interiors. Barely a few weeks old, this minimalist cafe is already on its way to becoming a social media hit with its fuzzy bean bags and playful furniture. The current menu is still a work in progress, featuring colourful Japanese-inflected dishes such as soba and dons (rice bowls), best paired with its crafted coffee and matcha beverages.

If you like what Atelier Binchotan and Wholly Spirits bring to the table, then you’ll want to check out their latest venture together. Opening its doors at APW Bangsar from 3 November, Jus—a play on the world ‘juice’ and ‘jus’—is a modern restobar that serves an eclectic mix of contemporary flavours prepared over flames with a genenerous use of spices. The casual dining concept also offers a selection of vibrant cocktails concocted by Wholly Spirits to complement the kitchen’s fiery dishes.

7. Mountbatten KL

Fun fact: Did you know that Jalan Tun Perak was formerly named Mountbatten? Paying homage to this piece of colonial history, Mountbatten makes its mark as a humble neighbourhood cafe nestled along its namesake road. Occupying two floors of a heritage shop house, the stylish space is decorated with old-school paraphernalia including a vintage grandfather clock and music speakers. A striking cobalt blue shelf brimming with books add character to the space, whilst large heliconia plants line the walls with greenery. Due to its proximity to Masjid Jamek LRT station, the cafe makes a strategic pit stop for a refreshing pick-me-up, while enticing customers to return for its Peranakan dishes.
