New month, new bags: January ’22 edition––from Dior, Loewe, and more

It’s a new year and to help ease you into 2022, we’re back on the roll with a delightful lineup of the need-to-know designer bag drops of the season. This month, we’ve got Loewe’s highly-anticipated link-up with Studio Ghibli featuring a second collection focused on anime classic Spirited Away (psst, somewhere on eBay, listings for pieces from the collab are going for thousands); Dior’s latest launch of their sporty Vibe line; refreshed icons from Fendi’s Winter capsule; Valentino’s versatile Y2K-esque Garavani Locò bag; as well as Kate Spade’s show-stopping smile bags to help inject a bit of laughter into your life.

Find all the lowdown of the latest luxury bag drops ahead:

Dior Vibe line

First unveiled during the Dior cruise 2022 show in the Greek capital of Athens, the Dior Vibe line unites the world of sportswear with Dior heritage. As such, what better way to spotlight the bag than with a campaign featuring eight female athletes, including Greek athlete Athina Koini, Somali boxer Ramla Ali, Afghan-Danish soccer player Nadia Nadim, Korean figure skater Yuna Kim and Chinese National Team Fencer Sun Yiwen, who embody the energy and elegance of the bag?

Conceived as a hybrid creation incorporating the codes of sneakers, the Dior Vibe blends practicality and sophistication with its graphic lines and emblematic curves––its no wonder that when it dropped, every tastemaker seemingly bagged one, including Blackpink member Jisoo. Available in the hobo and bowling bag styles across a variety of colours and sizes, each Vibe bag carries the house’s hallmarks symbols––Christian Dior stripes and monogramming––and is more decidedly sporty when compared to other Dior classics such as the Lady Dior.

The Dior Vibe line is now available in-stores and on dior.com.

Valentino Garavani Locò bag

The early aughts nostalgia lives on! Valentino’s latest bag has us all going locò for its elongated and compact design, punctuated by double gold chain handles and an eye-catching V clasp that injects a touch of contemporary urban charm. Playful yet possessing a retro appeal, the versatile bag detaches into a clutch and arrives in variations of sleek shiny black, neon yellow and bright bubblegum pink. The Valentino Garavani Locò draws its name from locomotive, a nod to the design of the model and mobility, as well as the latin word for madness, in celebration of Italian hedonism as an expression of the limitless possibilities of and human identities.

The Valentino Garavani Locò collection is now available in stores and online at valentino.com

Fendi

Launched late last year, Fendi’s Winter capsule introduces season signature realised via iterations of new house motifs as an evolution of the aesthetic first established during Kim Jone’s first collection for Italian house. As such, iconic handbag styles such as the Peekaboo, Baguette, Sunshine Shopper and Fendi Touch were all refreshed in accordance to the season.

One particular standout was the marble print that characterised the British designer’s couture debut. Reimagined in both rich peacock blues and a bold psychedelic hue (that will also work perfectly for CNY), the striking pattern appears across the Peekaboo and Fendi First in marbled shaved velvet, a material handcrafted using a technique known as carpet embroidery. Meanwhile, 3D textured FF motifs adorn a series of bags that range from the Sunshine Shopper tote to the Baguette and adorable mini models, in technical mesh of various versatile shades. If you’re on the hunt for a statement everyday companion, the options here are endless.

The Fendi Winter capsule is available online and in-stores.

Loewe x Spirited Away

What’s fashion about if not fantasy? Following last year’s iconic Loewe x My Neighbour Totoro capsule, Loewe and Studio Ghibli are back again with yet another fantastical collaboration, this time spotlighting one of the Japanese animation studio’s most-loved films, Spirited Away.

This latest drop celebrates the film’s magic, bringing its awe-inspiring characters to life across ready-to-wear, blankets, scarfs, as well as a selection of the brand’s distinct leather and canvas bags including the Amazona, Puzzle, Hammock, Flamenco and totes. From young protagonist Chihiro to Kaonoshi the spirit with no face and even the cute little soot sprites, figures are playfully rendered as jacquard, print, applique, and embroidery, while landscapes manifest as allover prints across accessories.

The Loewe x Spirited Away collection is available now online at loewe.com
