Breaking: Peter Dundas exits Roberto Cavalli

2016 has been a year of fashion musical chairs; we have seen new creative directors with their new roles at Oscar de la Renta, Saint Laurent, Salvatore Ferragamo, Lanvin and Calvin Klein. The latest to add on to the list is Peter Dundas, who decided to leave Roberto Cavalli after 19 months.

As reported by WWD, the designer said of his exit, “I want to thank Roberto Cavalli and the group for this valuable experience and wish them success in their future endeavours.” Prior to taking the helm at the house, Dundas had been the artistic director of Emilio Pucci for 7 years, since 2008. Having worked with founder, Roberto Cavalli and his wife Eva as head designer from 2002 to 2005, Dundas’ return to Cavalli in 2015 was indeed a homecoming.

Gian Giacomo Ferraris, chief executive officer of the group commented, “On behalf of Roberto Cavalli and our shareholders, we thank Peter Dundas for his contribution to the brand, and we wish him well for his future.” He added, “As Roberto Cavalli goes through a period of transformation, the design team will carry on and the appointment of a new creative director will be made in due course.”

Renowned for his love for ’70s vibes and prints, the Dundas’ aesthetics were very much in line with Cavalli’s ultra-feminine looks; body-hugging silhouettes, animal prints and boho-chic influences. The Norwegian designer showcased his final collection for the brand at Milan Fashion Week just last month.
