Buro Fashion Forward Initiative 2016: Where stars collide
Fashion's uprising stars and industry stalwarts converged for a special evening in conjunction with Paris Fashion Week on 30 September 2016. With an objective to foster and support emerging talent; this year's Buro Fashion Forward Initiative (BFFI) unveiled a showcase of Spring/Summer 2017 collections from participating designers.
The seven selected designers hailing from Eastern European countries like Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Azerbajdzjan comprised Alexander Terekhov, proprietor of feminine tailoring; LMVH prize winner and street style favourite, Tigran Avetisyan; the eloquent renditions of Russian heritage in Olga Vilshenko's line; romantic minimalism by Julia Kalmanovich; Outlaw Moscow, winners of Showstudio Fashion Film Award; Georgian designer, Gola Damian's avant-garde proposals for the everyday; and Djaba Diassamidze's dramatic evening wear.
In association with this year's partnership between Buro 24/7 and British luxury e-retailer, Farfetch, the selected designers will be working on capsule collections under the mentorship of Farfetch's buying and merchandising director, Candice Fragis. The collections constructed under the theme of Soviet Constructivism—the movement that ignited the creation of accessible fashion for the masses—will be available to purchase online at Farfetch.com from February 2017. Spearheaded by leading figures such as Varvara Stepanova and Alexander Rodchenko in the '20s and '30s, the core idea of creating comfortable clothing for the workingman remains relevant till this day.
Supporting the initiative, Buro 24/7's founder, Miroslava Duma was joined by an outstanding cast of industry leaders including the likes of Carine Roitfeld, Anna Dello Russo, Yasmin Sewell, Giovanna Battaglia, Derek Blasberg, Eva Chen, Gaia Repossi, Justin O'Shea, and Ellen Von Unwerth.
