PFW SS16: Céline

Lingerie seemed to have been many-a-designer’s mind for spring and Phoebe Philo at Céline was no exception. The show opened with a slew of monochromatic silk, leather and lace slips: the flimsiness of the garments anchored down by hefty chelsea boots and pointy woven leather flats. Innerwear as outerwear is a baffling concept (in my opinion) but by Philo’s deft hand it seemed less so. Why not throw a sleek jacket over a slip, pull on the chicest white pants and stomp out the door like the world is your catwalk (Look 8)?

Voluminous sleeves and a new neckline (Looks 27 and 28), cut to the shoulder and swooping across the bust, were reminiscent of peasant smocks but these were sharply tailored and chic, never once bordering on folksy. Look 39 seemed a little displaced in direction and colour story but what a stand-out: the coordinating jumpsuit and trench in military green were the bomb.
