Hari Raya 2021: All the spring-friendly hair inspo you'll need for your intimate/virtual Eid celebrations
Beat the heat
Raya is fast approaching, and though we may not be able to celebrate in person this year, there's no reason to compromise on your Raya beat! Whether you'll be Zooming into the festivities, or you're keeping celebrations purely within your immediate family, there is still occasion to dress up. After all, it is Eid!
This year, however, we're taking pointers from heat-friendly spring trends—while spring as a season may just be a mild suggestion in temperate Malaysia, its associated trends are absolutely perfect for the special occasion.
Ahead, find some of our favourite spring-inspired looks just in time for Eid 2021!
A style that keeps your grown-out fringe out of your face, is easy to recreate with little-to-no effort, and looks cool to boot? Take pointers from Riri herself. All you'll need is a set of bobby pins!
Low space buns
Fun fact: Space buns are surprisingly wearable once you take the 'Coachella' element out of them. These low, Eid-appropriate buns are the perfect, heat-proof complement to any Raya 'fit.
The matching scarf
An easy way to keep your hair off your face (and off your neck) is to incorporate a headscarf into your hair routine. Tie your hair into a low bun, wrap the scarf around, pin it into place, and knot the tails at the nape of your neck. Easy!
The bubble braid
The best part? It's remarkably easy to recreate! Here, hairstylist Justine Marjan gives us a quick tutorial.
The bubble braid: Spring edition
If your baju raya is in need of zhushing, this is the 'do for you (just ditch the bucket hat). This cute floral bubble braid is super simple to recreate but has maximum impact. Trust us—whether in a ponytail, a half-updo, or a bubble bun, this look is bound to be a showstopper in all your 'grams and Zooms!
TIP: Fresh flowers will work for a quick 'gram, but for all-day wear, opt for artificial blooms instead.
The whirly-wig braid
If you're looking for heatproof hair that errs on the side of quirky, this look has you covered. All you have to do is sweep your hair back into a sleek pony, split the ponytail into sections and braid each individually.
TIP: The exact amount of kink you add into each plait depends on how thin your sections are and how much heat styling you're applying to your braid!
The messy, curly top knot
This look is best suited for curly girls with more hair than they know what to do with. Simply sweep your curls into a rough ponytail at the very top of your head, scrunch it down into a bun and pin in place if needed. The result, a super-cute, undone top knot that looks amazing and will keep you cool!
