Challenge yourself to a cardio workout with these running events in Malaysia

Remember the news about Malaysians being the slowest marathon runners in the world? The study has not deterred the nation’s zest for marathons, and that’s good. After all, obesity is a major issue in the country but that’s a topic for some other day. The focus this time should be on the interest to run and be active. The great news for Malaysians is that there are always exciting races to take part in, all year round. Take note of this running calendar to hit the ground pounding.

1. Garmin Marathon

This is Garmin’s inaugural marathon in Malaysia following a successful half-marathon conducted previously. Choose from categories such as full marathon (42 kilometres, half marathon (21 kilometres), 10 kilometres, and five kilometres.

2. District Race by AIA Vitality

Presented by AIA Vitality, this is the world’s greatest urban exploration race and is making its debut in Kuala Lumpur. District Race app is an experiential technology platform that is redefining running and urban exploration through gamification. The race will go live in stages across Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Melaka, and Johor Bahru.

3. The Music Run

For the sixth consecutive year, The Music Run will make its much anticipated return to Kuala Lumpur. Music and running, two of the world’s favourite past times are connected for this event, dubbed “Asia’s fittest party”. There will be more than 100 speakers lining the entire Sound Track circuit culminating with a giant stage showcasing local bands, top DJs, and renowned Live The Beat show. One important thing to note: The Music Run will also be one of the most eco-friendly races with the push towards sustainability and eco-awareness.

4. Penang Bridge International Marathon

This is a marathon known for its fun, carnival-like atmosphere albeit its challenging course. Held annually, the run will be a showcase of the colours, sights and taste of Penang. Take note that registration closes on 31 July.

5. Runkawi 2019
