Shopping in KL: 7 W&J brands that have reopened, the precautions they’re taking, and the extra services offered at this time

It’s safe to say that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the consumers’ shopping habits. During the lockdown period, in particular, many people have turned to online shopping for all of their needs. But as the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO)—which allows most economic sectors to open with conditions—has been implemented since May 4, malls have started reopening a few weeks back, and stores including watches and jewellery boutiques have resumed operations.

Before you make your way down to the stores for your retail therapy, find out the precautions that some of the boutiques are taking, and take note of some of the extra services that they offer at this time.

Piaget


Opening hours: 10.30am to 8pm

Precautions: Its boutique’s SOPs include scanning and recording the client’s temperature and details at the entrance of boutique, requiring clients to sanitise their wrists and hands upon entering, practising safe distancing, and disinfecting the store regularly.

Extra services: The brand is currently testing out a virtual-call format with clients, so feel free to request should you be interested. Whereas for those who’d like to get an up-close look at the products at your own home, you can contact the boutique to make the necessary arrangements too. For fuss-free viewing, its website has been updated with the new Possession and Sunlight collections.

Tiffany & Co.


Opening hours: 11am to 8pm

Precautions: Aside from the standard SOPs, the store staff will also sanitise all jewellery before and after the customers try them on. A limitation of five clients per floor has also been imposed.

Extra services: For those who’d like a more private experience, you can request for one-on-one styling appointments with the staff. Home delivery service and the brand’s renowned White Glove Service are also provided.

Bvlgari


Opening hours: 10am to 8pm

Precautions: The store has put up signage inside and outside of its façade, noting that the stores are cleaned and sanitised daily, temperature check, contact tracing form with QR code,

Extra service: The boutique has implemented a new payment method called CosmoPay, where clients can complete their purchase via a secure personalised link sent by the client advisor, and for those of you who reside in Klang Valley, you’ll receive complimentary delivery straight to your home.

Omega


Opening hours: 10am to 8pm

Precautions: Aside from the mandatory of SOPs, all the timepieces and jewellery will be disinfected after every customer’s visit using Omega’s own watch-cleaning kit and sanitising solutions. On top of that, items that have been in contact with customers—including presentation trays, stationaries, furniture, door handles, credit-card terminal and more—will also be disinfected. The store will also be limiting the number of people in its boutique depending on the size of each location.

Jaeger-LeCoultre


Opening hours: 11am to 8pm

Precautions: The store will be adhering to the SOPs set by the government, including the mandatory temperature scanning at the boutique entrance, providing hand sanitisers for all shoppers, and carry out regular disinfection to keep the boutique sanitised and clean.

Montblanc


Opening hours: 10am to 8pm

Precautions: Like the rest of the brands, Montblanc will be taking each customer’s temperature before they enter, and sanitisers will be prepared in-stores. The boutique will also clean and disinfect surfaces a minimum of three times a day, and not more than five clients will be allowed in the store at one time.

Cartier


Opening hours: 11am to 8pm

Precautions: To promote a safe and healthy shopping environment, Cartier is also adhering to the SOPs, from temperature screening and registration, to provision of hand sanitisers, to regular disinfection of all high-touch surfaces, including the pieces that are presented to customers.

As the Conditional Movement Control Order has yet to be lifted and criteria still have to be adhered to, many businesses have to adopt a future-focused perspective in order to survive and thrive. While it’s definitely not easy for the watches and jewellery sector, the alternatives that the brands have come up with—contactless payment, virtual viewing, home deliveries and more—are sure signs of adapting to the new normal.
