Dusky desires: Hermès Cape Cod Shadow

A rebel from the start, the Cape Cod timepieces by Hermès have been an expression of spontaneity. When the Maison asked Henri d’Origny to design a square watch, their free-spirited creative partner came up with an almost irreverent response by giving them a ‘square in a rectangle’.

That was all the way back in 1991. More than 25 years have passed and the Cape Cod remains a natural choice for a contemporary wrist adornment. Stylishly attired in the iconic double tour strap and tongue-in-cheek frame, it reflects rigorous discipline in combination with a boldly impertinent attitude. Good design stands the test of time.

Paying homage to yet another attribute of time, the Hermès Cape Cod refuses to stand still and reinvents itself once again. Embracing a darker aesthetic, the newest model casts a magnetic Shadow. A black DLC (Diamond-like carbon)-treated case of brushed steel, matte black dial, and black calfskin double wrap-around straps are given an edge with red burnishing on the leather.

As with all Hermès objects, the Hermès Cape Cod Shadow is a horological instrument crafted with uncompromising expertise by the hands of artisans. Rather than measuring, ordering, and seeking to control it, Hermès dares to explore another time, designed to arouse emotions, open up interludes and create spaces for spontaneity and recreation.
