BURO Spotlights: The St. Regis House of Celebration at St. Regis Jakarta

Since its inception in 1904—when John Jacob Astor built the original St. Regis New York as a sister property to his part-owned Waldorf-Astoria Hotel—the St. Regis brand has become synonymous with celebrations. The Astor family was famous for hosting lavish affairs with the city’s most prestigious luminaries, which continues to live on in the brand’s legacy today.

In the same spirit, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts in Asia Pacific is inviting guests to enter its ‘House of Celebration’ to relive the exquisite festivities of the iconic brand’s founding family. Drawing inspiration from haute couture runways, the House of Celebration sees a distinct theme for each of the four seasons—where exclusive cultural, fashion, and dining experiences that highlight St. Regis’ timeless rituals will take place across the finest addresses in the Asia Pacific from Hong Kong and Shanghai to Jakarta and Osaka

“St. Regis hotels and resorts have always attracted society’s luminaries, serving as places for iconic celebrations and exquisite rituals,” said Jennie Toh, Vice President, Brand Marketing & Management, Asia Pacific, Marriott International. “We will continue this tradition with the House of Celebration, creating extraordinary moments that punctuate the year and set the stage for exquisite experiences through a bold vision of modern glamour that reimagines timeless rituals, blending them with destination-defining activations for each season.”

With that, here’s what to expect from the St. Regis House of Celebration in the upcoming seasons.

Spring—A Celebration of People

5 June to 4 July 2023

In conjunction with springtime—the season of new beginnings—the House of Celebration kicked off with a gathering of society’s tastemakers and trailblazing luminaries at St. Regis’ latest debut, St. Regis Jakarta. Among the most prominent faces who graced the launch include Korean-American singer-songwriter Jessica Jung, Indonesian actor Daniel Mananta, Indonesian singer-actress Cinta Laura Kiehl, and Indonesian singer-songwriter Raisa.

Highlighting the glittering launch event was the St. Regis Jakarta x Monica Ivena Kaleidoscope Dreams fashion show, featuring the Indonesian couture designer’s latest capsule collection. The show was divided into four unique segments—Gatsby, Disco, Under the Sea, and Birds of Paradise.

Further, the launch also saw previews of events to look forward to at St. Regis hotels and resorts across Asia Pacific in the coming seasons, including summer’s Exquisite Journey Menus and The Art of Drinking experiences, along with autumn’s Fashion Trunk Shows. BURO Malaysia got an exclusive first-hand experience of what to expect during our recent visit to the hotel—read on for the full scoop.

Summer—A Celebration of Place

5 July to 31 August 2023

The Art of Drinking

For summer, the House of Celebration will pay respect to the local influences of each respective St. Regis hotel and resort in the region. Guests can look forward to bespoke Exquisite Journey Menus that incorporate locally sourced ingredients, as well as modern intepretations of distinctive cultural cuisines. What’s more, The Art of Drinking will offer special cocktails that promise to transport guests to other St. Regis destinations.

For instance, we celebrated St. Regis Jakarta’s Violet Hour ritual—which marks the transition from day to evening—with a signature martini. This was followed by the hotel bar’s uniquely crafted take on the classic Bloody Mary, a cocktail that has long been a part of St. Regis’ legacy. Named the Batavia Mary, the one-of-a-kind tipple is made from 20 ingredients, including locally-made arak liquor and even sambal oelek (an Indonesian chilli paste). You won’t find this anywhere else, so it’s definitely worth a try when staying at the hotel!

Autumn—A Celebration of Culture

6 September to 30 November 2023

St. Regis Afternoon Tea Ritual

Come autumn, St. Regis hotels and resorts across Asia Pacific will welcome celebrations of culture and diversity. Dubbed Bright Encounters, guests can expect special masterclasses on Packing in Style with St. Regis Butlers and tastemakers of the fashion world, who will share tips for packing couture garments and valuable luxury items when traveling.

In addition, the masterclasses will be accompanied by fabulous Fashion Trunk Shows where guests can meet and interact with fashion designers, get personalised advice from expert stylists, enjoy creative displays, and purchase bespoke limited-edition couture pieces.

We had a glimpse of this through a thoughtful salon experience with Monica Ivena following her stellar fashion show, held over St. Regis’ signature Afternoon Tea. During the session, we were able to learn more about her passion for creating couture pieces that are tailor-made to the specific needs of her clients, whether she’s Taylor Swift (who incidentally has worn one of her designs) or a bride-to-be. Similarly, future trunk shows will allow attendees to have meaningful conversations with distinguished experts in the fields of lifestyle, fashion, culture, art, sustainability or travel.

Winter—A Celebration of Time

6 December 2023 to 29 February 2024

The end of the year and the arrival of a new one is often a period of wonderful festivities with loved ones, and St. Regis wants to honour that with the celebration of time. Thus, the winter season will provide guests the opportunity to learn tips to enhance holiday rituals in true St. Regis fashion.

For one, St. Regis Butlers will offer gift wrapping services using House of Celebration seasonal wrapping paper for in-suite guests or while they relax over a festive Afternoon Tea, in honour of The Art of Gifting. Children can also participate in the brand’s Family Traditions, a workshop for kids on the art of gift wrapping. Alternatively, guests may book private champagne sabering masterclasses to learn The Art of Sabrage, led by expert St. Regis Butlers or mixologists.

At St. Regis Jakarta, the champagne sabrage takes place every Friday and Saturday evening at the Grand Hall, promising to enthrall guests as they witness one of the most iconic evening rituals in St. Regis traditions. Coupled with a captivating Sound of Light show that spotlights the work of Czech glassmaker Lasvit and the music of Indonesian composer Andi Rianto, the experience reveals just why the hotel is considered one of the finest addresses in the Indonesian capital.

Needless to say, guests are in for lavish affairs befitting the most notable luminaries when they stay at the House of Celebration. And if you’re wondering which St. Regis hotel or resort should be your next destination, St. Regis Jakarta’s immaculate rooms and facilities, warm and thoughtful hospitality, fine food and cocktails, as well as timeless rituals will no doubt colour you impressed.
