7 Best activities for rekindling love in Singapore

When contemplating a romantic getaway, Singapore may not be the immediate choice that comes to mind. Sure, the country is recognised for its bustling cityscape, shopping variety, fun family attractions, and impressive skyline—but romance? Not quite the first place you’ll think of.

However, my perspective shifted on a recent trip there with my husband in conjunction with Singapore Tourism Board’s ‘Made in Singapore’ campaign. The initiative aims to inspire travellers to make that trip to the Lion City, highlighting it as a destination that’s not only vibrant and cosmopolitan, but also deeply rooted in heritage. Whilst there, we discovered many romantic and enjoyable activities for couples, and I’m excited to share them with you. Below, you’ll find a curated list of the top activities to savour with your partner in Singapore.

Spectacular night city views await

This remarkable city landmark on Raffles Avenue, a familiar sight for many Malaysians on our journey from the airport into town, stands proudly as one of the world’s largest observation wheels, reaching a height of 165 metres and boasting a diameter of 150 metres. While some may view the Singapore Flyer experience, launched in 2008, as a bit touristy, I urge you to consider its hidden charms.

Under the twinkling stars, we had the chance to relish the mesmerising views of Marina Bay. Taking the experience up a notch is the option for a refined dining affair with the 165 Sky Dining experience. This is where the magic happens. In a private shared capsule with an intimate dining setting, we were treated to a four-course dinner. An in-flight host added a personal, hospitable touch, serving us as the wheel turned for an enthralling 60-minute journey. We engaged in meaningful conversations, indulged in delectable cuisine, and basked in the breathtaking cityscape—a perfect setting for rekindling connections with a loved one.

Marvel at nature’s beauty

The next item on the list is Gardens by the Bay, a major horticultural site that offers visitors a whole new perspective on plant life and stands as a renowned tourist destination. Consider this an upgraded version of your typical park picnic date. Discover new plants that are uncommon in this region of the world—from species found in mild, temperate temperatures to tropical forests and habitats—all sheltered under an expansive glass dome. There are plenty of picturesque photo and creative video opportunities to be had at the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest—ensuring you’ll depart with preserved memories from a truly unforgettable experience. Tip: check out their website for info on immersive themed walk-through events happening from time to time, such as the Avatar: The Experience, running until January 2024.

Indulge in serene escape

Discover tranquillity and romance together at Aramsa Spa, a hidden oasis where we found solace from the demands of everyday life. Despite Singapore’s compact cityscape, this spa is a true gem nestled in the Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood within the lush expanse of Thomas Nature Park, Singapore’s national park.

Featuring seventeen specially crafted treatment rooms, Aramsa Spa is a harmonious blend of modern, edgy design, seamlessly integrated with stunning greenery. Unwind as you embark on a sensory journey, starting with an enjoyable and enlightening essential oil-selecting session. We opted for aromatic oil massages and by the end of the rejuvenating experience, we left feeling remarkably at ease and ready to embrace our next adventure.

See Singapore from the top

As we explored the pinnacle of Singapore’s retail excellence at ION Orchard, we were also given the chance to ascend to ION Sky, accessible via ION Art on the fourth level. Ride the lift up 56 levels and walk out to an extraordinary view of the city from the vantage point of Orchard Road. Fun fact: you can even spot Malaysia, more specifically, Johor Bahru, from up there. Then, unwind at the 1-Atico lounge with a drink in hand while soaking in panoramic views of Singapore.

Have an unforgettable pasta-making experience

If you’re seeking a truly unique and enjoyable bonding experience with your partner, I highly recommend trying your hand at The Sundowner‘s pasta-making workshop. It’s an excellent way to infuse a touch of fun into your dining routine while gaining hands-on skills in crafting your own meals. During our visit, we delved into the fundamentals of creating pasta dough from scratch, using basic ingredients like flour and eggs. The experience involved mastering the art of kneading the dough to achieve the perfect texture, followed by skillfully manoeuvring it through the pasta machine for the ideal size and shape.

Adding to the charm of the day, we had the opportunity to explore The Sundowner’s rooftop, where we personally picked out herbs for usage in our pasta creations. The result of our hard work resulted in two dishes crafted entirely by us for our lunch. Beyond being a fun and engaging activity for couples, it’s also a fantastic way to spend quality time with a group of friends. The shared laughter, learning, and delicious outcomes make it an unforgettable culinary adventure.

Craft your signature scent

There’s a warm, loving feeling of basking in the scent of someone you hold dear. And if you’re eager to understand your partner on a deeper level, explore their fragrance preferences. Our journey into the world of scents started at Oo La Lab, a Singapore-made fine fragrance company, where we immersed ourselves in a captivating one-hour perfume crafting workshop. The experience was a delightful exploration through various fragrance families—fresh, floral, oriental, woody, and complex—comprising a total of 27 distinct notes. We each crafted a personalised fragrance formula, carefully selecting notes to our liking.

As the workshop concluded, we left with our custom creation in hand, a tangible reminder of the olfactory adventure we took part in. There’s also an option to collaborate with a skilled mixologist who guides you in designing your very own signature fragrance.

Go on a sunset dinner cruise

The highlight of our time in Singapore was undoubtedly the sunset dinner cruise aboard the magnificent Royal Albatross ship, a captivating blend of old-school pirate charm and modern city vistas. Departing from Sentosa Island just before sunset, we were treated to breathtaking views of the sun casting hues of orange and yellow across the sky, accompanied by a delectable four-course dinner.

As daylight gracefully gave way to moonlight, we found ourselves serenaded by the enchanting vocals of the on-board live singer, enveloped in the natural beauty of the outdoors. Whether you’re in search of a romantic dinner or a sophisticated dining experience, the sunset dinner cruise offers a one-of-a-kind experience you’ll cherish forever.
