Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024: Introducing Galaxy AI and the Galaxy S24 series
New year, new era
In the days leading up to today’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024, we knew we had to prepare for something big. Its teaser video took us through the decades and generations of Samsung phones from the first ever TV phone to the Galaxy Z Flip5. The final frame left us with an intriguing one-liner: Galaxy AI is coming.
Following last night’s Unpacked global event hosted in San Jose, California, we were on the edge of our seats and ready to experience the Samsung Galaxy energy first-hand. Today, not only did we learn about the revolutionary Galaxy AI, Samsung also introduced us to its new lineup of phones: the Galaxy S24 series.
“Galaxy AI is defined not by what your phone can do but how you can be powered with the right tools,” announced Samsung Malaysia’s Head of Product Marketing Luke Au at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Malaysia event. “And the Samsung Galaxy S24 is the phone of the future today.” To get you caught up, here is an introduction to Galaxy AI and the Galaxy S24 series.
GALAXY AI
The arrival of Galaxy AI marks the beginning of Samsung’s new era of mobile artificial intelligence. It promises to enrich its users’ lives in nearly every experience on the Galaxy S24 series and is integrated into each phone in the new lineup. From Live Translate in text and call conversations to the ProVisual Engine AI-powered tools, Galaxy AI has touched just about every corner of the Galaxy S24 experience.
Here are five key Galaxy AI-powered features that you can find on the Galaxy S24 series phones:
Live Translate: Communicating in different languages has never been easier with Live Translate, the two-way, real-time voice and text translation feature. The translations occur as your conversation progresses within the native text app or on the phone call itself. No third party apps are required.
Chat Assist: If you’ve ever had miscommunication issues or trouble relaying information in certain tones, Chat Assist can help perfect your messages to ensure your texts are sent as intended. From casual chats to more formal discussions, Chat Assist can provide five different renditions of your text in different tones for you to select the most appropriate to send off. The AI built into Samsung Keyboard can also help you translate your messages real-time in 13 different languages. In line with making messaging easier, Android Auto also helps summarise messages and suggest replies—like sending someone your ETA while you’re driving—so you can keep your eyes on the road and stay connected at the same time.
Note Assist: Staying organised with your notes will also come as a breeze with Note Assist in Samsung Notes. Its key benefits include AI-generated summaries, pre-made templates, and cover creation. For recordings, Transcript Assist can also be engaged to transcribe, summarise, and translate recordings using AI and speech-to-text technology.
Circle to Search with Google: Expanding its capabilities beyond communication assistance, Galaxy S24 and Galaxy AI bring to you Circle to Search with Google. The Galaxy S24 phones are the first to introduce this intuitive, gesture-driven feature that allows for instant Google searches of anything you see on your screen.
Simply long press the home button and circle, highlight, tap, or scribble on anything on your Galaxy S24 screen to get helpful search results powered by the world’s leading search engine. Whether you want to look up a landmark in the background of a friend’s photo, translate text from an Instagram bio, or look up a recipe you spot on TikTok, this powerful tool can help you learn more and get useful information without having to leave the app you’re on.
ProVisual Engine: Your mobile photo capturing and editing experience just got so much smarter. With Galaxy S24 series’s ProVisual Engine, you have a comprehensive suite of AI-powered photo editing tools at your fingertips. This includes Generative Edit, which allows you to fill in parts of a background with generative AI. The Edit Suggestion function also uses AI to propose tweaks for each photo such as removing a shadow or reflection. Each photo that is edited using generative AI will be stamped with a Galaxy AI watermark. For video, Instant Slow-mo can generate and insert additional frames into your videos to create smooth slow motion footage.
GALAXY S24 ULTRA
Samsung’s best phone just got better with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Powered with Galaxy AI and run on cutting edge technology, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the ultimate phone to step into the era of mobile AI with. With its groundbreaking capabilities, this phone promises to bring your creativity, productivity, and quality of life to greater heights.
Design: The S24 Ultra weighs in at about 233g and comes in seven mineral-inspired colours, three of which are online exclusives. Constructed with a titanium frame, the S24 Ultra is sturdier than ever with its IP68 water and dust resistant body. The phone is also supported with a built-in S Pen.
Display: The phone features a 6.8inch, 3120 x 1440 resolution QHD+ dynamic Amoled 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and vision booster. At 2600 nits, this generation also has the brightest adaptive display ever made in the Galaxy family. The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Armor, built to protect your phone against damage from everyday scratches. It also reduces reflections, ensuring a comfortable and uninterrupted viewing experience.
Camera: There are five lenses on the phone, making it one of the most impressive in terms of photographic and video shooting capabilities. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera is also the first of the Galaxy smartphones to offer a Quad Tele system, which captures clearer and crisper photos. The AI Zoom feature—courtesy of the ProVisual Engine—allows for more detailed photos even when shooting in digital zoom ranges alongside the Nightography and Super HDR photo features.
First, the main camera is a whopping 200MP with a wide lens and 85-degree field of view. Next, the ultra-wide camera comes in at 12MP with a 120-degree field of view. The telephoto cameras are 50MP and 10MP with 5x and 3x optical zooms respectively. Lastly, the front camera features 12MP with an 80-degree field of view.
Premium performance: Every Galaxy S24 Ultra is fitted with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, optimised exclusively for Galaxy users. Purpose built for heavy duty use and quick processing with AI, the chipset brings with it incredible NPU improvements. Mobile gaming also gets an upgrade with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with an optimal thermal control system and 1.9x larger vapour chamber than previous models.

GALAXY S24+ AND S24
Size and speed go hand-in-hand with the Galaxy S24+ and S24, which comes with the highest screen resolution on a Galaxy device. Made with all-day use in mind, the Galaxy S24+ and S24 are perfect for those constantly on the go, who also enjoy a larger screen for a more satisfying viewing or gaming experience.
Design: At just under 200g, the Galaxy S24+ is a comfortable phone to hold and have. The S24 is slightly lighter, weighing approximately 168g. Just like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Galaxy S24+ and S24 are also available in seven colours, with three of them—Jade Green, Sapphire Blue and Sandstone Orange—being online exclusives.
Display: The larger Galaxy S24+ features a 6.7-inch QHD+ display, whereas the Galaxy S24 is fitted with a 6.2-inch FHD+ display. Both phones have dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with a 120Hz refresh rate and vision boosters.
Camera: The Galaxy S24+ and S24 are kitted out with a 12-megapixel front camera and a triple-lens rear camera consisting of: a 50MP wide-angle camera with 2x optical quality zoom, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP 3x optical zoom camera. Nightography capabilities allow for clearer shots with reduced noise taken in dim settings. The AI-backed ProVisual engine also enhances detail, colour, and vibrancy in your photos, even when shot at high digital zooms.
Battery: The Galaxy S24+ has a 4,900 mAh battery that can provide up to 31 hours of video playback and 92 hours of audio playback.
Memory: There are two options for memory and storage with the Galaxy S24+: 12GB + 512GB and 12GB + 256GB. On the Galaxy S24, you can either get 8GB + 512GB or 8GB + 256GB.
Durability: The space-grade Armour Aluminium exteriors also ensure durability without making your phone heavier than it needs to be. The phones also have IP68 dust and water resistance, so you don’t have to worry about debris and splashes.
