1. Kick back and relax with your peers at Edelweiss Weekend Unwind

When: 4-28 May 2023 | 3pm – 10pm, Thursdays to Sundays 

Where: Central Rooftop Garden, Lalaport BBCC

Take it easy and soak in the good vibes at Edelweiss Weekend Unwind, which will take place over four consecutive weekends in May starting this week. Located on the rooftop garden of Lalaport BBCC, the event’s lineup includes pop-up markets, workshops, music and experiential events headlined by homegrown industry shakers. Among the familiar names to look out for are HaoRen, Emily Chan, Changyong, Shusen, Kendra Sow, Josephine Yap and Shi Qi. 

To help you cool down and experience life the Edelweiss way, there will be an Unwind Bar serving creative cocktail offerings by expert mixologists using Edelweiss Wheat Beer. What’s more, the beer brand has teamed up with Pingmin Market to host a pop-up market where local artisans will showcase their crafts for sale.

2. Explore the latest automotive technologies at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023

Where: Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), Selangor

Motorheads, take note! Malaysia’s largest automotive exhibition is back, showcasing key technologies that will propel the country into the future of mobility. Organised by Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), the four-day event features more than 80 brands and 300 displays across five halls. Visitors can expect hundreds of the latest cars, EVs, motorbikes, concepts and technological developments, along with test-drive opportunities and exciting activities and challenges.

3. Meet and greet Hakken at the M.A.C is Everything event

When: 3-7 May 2023 

Where: Centre Court, Mid Valley Megamall

Are you an aspiring makeup artist or a fan of prominent Malaysian cosplayer and model Hakken Ryou? Then you’ll want to check out the M.A.C is Everything event happening at Mid Valley Megamall! In celebration of all ages, all genders, and all races, M.A.C Cosmetics welcomes everyone to explore colours, artistry and self-expression with its wide range of makeup collections at the five-day event. Visitors will also get to witness makeup demonstrations of the latest makeup trends, test out products, and participate in interactive activities to redeem attractive gifts.

4. Explore the intersection of art and environmental activism at the ‘Haze’ exhibition

Where: REX KL 

Caught wind of the ongoing haze? (Yes, shameless pun intended.) If you’re wondering what can be done to stop this recurring issue, join the movement for a #HazeFreeMalaysia at REX KL this month, which delves into the intersection of art and environmental activism. The ‘Haze’ exhibition will feature a panel discussion with a dynamic group of environmentalists on 6 May, as well as a display of artworks by distinguished artists including Ernest Zacharevic, Cloakwork, Fahmi Redza, Trina Teoh, and more. In addition, there will be a ‘Slient Storm’ dance performance by Asia Ballet Theatre and a film premiere of ‘Haze-zilla’.

Where: National Art Gallery, No. 2, Jalan Temerloh, Off Jalan Tun Razak, 53200 Kuala Lumpur

If an art installation is more up your alley, head over to the National Art Gallery to check out this colourful 3D work by local multidisciplinary artist Nawwar Shukriah, fondly known as Bono Stellar. Dubbed ‘Theta’, the installation showcases her signature aesthetic through a vibrant display of colours and materials that create a whimsical reality.

7. Shop knick-knacks at the Wavy Market in Tiffin at the Yard

Where: Tiffin at the Yard, Sentul Depot

Those itching for some retail therapy may want to make their way to Tiffin at the Yard this weekend for the inaugural Wavy Market by Lokalwave. The three-day market will see a curated list of stalls offering thrifted clothing, accessories, arts and crafts, and local foods. More than 20 vendors will be participating in the market, so drop by to discover and support small local businesses and artisans!
