BMW: The 840i Gran Coupé M Sport has arrived in Malaysia—and it’s the first of its kind

If you’re an avid fan of BMW, or even cars in general, here’s something you’d want to check out. The luxury car brand is no stranger to Malaysian streets and they are now ready to up the ante with their newest addition to the portfolio—the 840i Gran Coupé M Sport. The first-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is said to be the German automaker’s most luxurious sports coupé. What is it about the model that warrants so much fanfare?

Let’s start with its exterior appearance. Firstly, the 840i Gran Coupé M Sport’s low centre of gravity is emphasised by a widened frame that complements its iconic kidney grille. In addition to that, the front of the vehicle is defined by large M Sport air intakes as well as laser headlight with high-beam assistant. It is also known that it is the most slender headlight of all BMW models. On top of the usual BMW M Sport package, this model also comes with the BMW M Aerodynamic kit. An upgrade, it is.

There’s more—the 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is equipped with frameless side windows to highlight the vehicle’s fluidity. As for the model’s rear appearance, you’ll find full-LED taillights that are provided with the stylised L-shape and smoked glass cover as well as M Sport package diffuser-flanked exhaust tailpipes. With the increment of about 20 centimetres at the wheelbase of the coupé, two additional doors (which are equally frameless) are permitted.

How about the engine? The BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is powered by a three-litre six-cylinder in-line TwinPower Turbo engine. With a possible top speed of 250 kilometres per hour, the vehicle can go from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 5.2 seconds. That is considered the fastest in its segment and the engine is new to the BMW 8 Series. In addition to the BMW sDrive rear-wheel-drive system, the coupé is also fitted with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheels. This particular feature means that shift times are now shorter and there are more gear ratios.

Now let’s take a look at its interior! With the extra space at the back for rear passengers and the panoramic glass roof, one can expect the four-door coupé to feel airy and light. To further accentuate the luxurious identity of the BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport, BMW has furnished the model with M Leather steering wheel, CraftedClarity glass application, a full-leather dashboard, electric sports seats with integrated headrests, and active seat ventilation.

Furthermore, the BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is also armed with a 12.3-inch customisable instrument cluster that’s combined with the 10.25-inch touchscreen Control Display—with an infotainment system based on BMW Operating System 7.0.

Some driving features you need to know include the Driving Assistant Professional with Cross-traffic Warning at the rear and Lane Change Warning, Active Cruise Control, the automatic Speed Limit Assist, the Steering and Lane Control Assistant as well as the Forward Collision Warning with braking function. If you prefer driving with brilliant sound, the BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is completed with Harman Kardon 16-speaker surround sound system.

Available in six colours—Barcelona Blue, Sonic Speed Blue, Carbon Black, Black Sapphire, Mineral White, and Sunset Orange—the BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport starts from RM968,800. As the first of its kind, the model comes with ample upgrades that give it a luxurious push; in terms of aesthetics and performance. What are your thoughts on BMW’s latest offering in Malaysia?
