A Quick Introduction to the New Porsche 911 GT3 S/C, Its First-Ever Cabriolet GT3

Get to know the brand new Porsche 911 GT3 S/C, the automaker’s debut convertible in the 911 GT3 lineup.

After soft launching its silhouette across the Internet about a week ago, Porsche has finally unveiled the latest addition to its 911 family: the 911 GT3 S/C. This launch isn’t just the arrival of a new addition in its lineup, it also marks the first time the automaker has introduced a 911 GT3 with a fully automatic convertible roof.

It takes the best of both words from the builds of the 911 S/T and the 911 GT3, taking the lightweight design and naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat six engine from each build respectively. Unlike the Speedster, the 911 GT3 S/C is not a limited-edition model and is also currently Designed to provide the ultimate “driver’s car” experience complete with a short-ratio six-speed manual sports transmission, this new 911 GT3 S/C will deliver the unmistakable thrills that the Porsche GT series is known for with the added top-down emotion that only a cabriolet can deliver. Here are some quick facts about this new build that will soon be taking over the roads.

KEEPING THINGS LIGHT

With the ability to rev up to 9,000rpm, the engine within the 911 GT3 S/C is not here to play. This manual drive delivers up to 502 horsepower with a 3.9-second century sprint and a top speed of 313 km/h, all thanks to its ending producing 375 kW and 450 Nm of torque. Ultimately, it comes down to keeping the 911 GT3 S/C in a weight range that balances both power, poise, and personality.

Frank Moser, head of the 911 and 718 model series, has described the 911 GT3 S/C as a car that was made for drivers who crave the sports car feel that hones in on pure pleasure of driving and nothing else. “The emotive powertrain of the 911 GT3 comes into its own even more emphatically when driving with the roof down on winding country roads,” Moser shares. “This is particularly down to managing to keep the weight of the 911 GT3 S/C down to just 1,497 kilograms, despite the fully automatic soft top. That is only about 30 kg more than the 991-generation 911 Speedster.”

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

As mentioned above, the 911 GT3 S/C combines features from its 911 Speedster and 911 S/T cousins. From the Speedster, this new build adopts the two-seater configuration, making it the only 911 in the current range to have this design. On the other hand, the 911 S/T lends its lightweight structure and materials to allow for the 911 GT3 S/C’s agility to shine as much as its older siblings’ have. From the bonnet to the wing, carbon fibre features allow for as many reductions in total weight as possible.

ON THE INTERIOR

Porsche’s efforts to keep things light extend into the car’s interiors. Its carpets and door panels with carbon-fibre pull handles are direct pulls from the 911 S/T. Built as a two-seater, the 911 GT3 S/C comes with four-way adjustable Sports Seats Plus fitted in black leather. It also gives buyers the option of sports bucket seats with folding backrests and carbon-fibre seat shells or even three-stage seat heating. Details such as an embroidered logo in the centre of the rear bulkhead trim and the steering wheel upholstered in perforated leather add to its overall character.

TURNING HEADS

Meanwhile, its exteriors are just as impressive, making the car’s presence known wherever it drives. Its windscreen frame matches its black roof, adding dimension to its overall look. The matrix LED headlights act in both function and form, combining all front lighting functions into one. This means additional light units can be omitted and more room can be made for air intake. In the rear, the retractable rear spoiler is paired with a Gurney flap—a detail taken from the 911 S/T and 911 GT3 with Touring Package—for the first time ever on a 911 with a convertible roof.

STREET STYLE PACKAGE

For some extra character, the new 911 GT3 S/C also arrives with the optional Street Style Package. Its upgrades include additional details on both the exterior and interior of the car. You’ll first spot the decorative graphics on the front wings as well as the ‘PORSCHE’ lettering on the sides of the vehicle are in the colour Pyro Red.

The Adaptive Sports Seats Plus come complete with an embroidered outline of the Porsche crest and a striking four-tone braided leather in Slate Grey, Guards Red, Magnesium Grey and Kalahari upholstery on the seats’ centre panels, which you can also find in the glove box.

Most of the car is finished with two-tone leather in Slate Grey and Guards Red, with more details such as the stitching and door handle loops also given the Guards Red treatment. Other details worth noting are open-pore laminated wood gear knob, floor mats with leather edging, Slate Grey Race-Tex finishes, and a ‘911’ badge fitted on the passenger side.
