This time of the year, millions around the world are making a promise to hit the gym more and exercise regularly. The adage – “if not now, when?” hits the spot and couldn’t be truer as we gear up to a healthier lifestyle in the months ahead. But reality is it’s hard work and without a game plan, you could be derailed from your fitness resolution. To kick-start your routine and actually stick to your goals, keep these five pro tips in mind:

Be specific

There’s a better chance of you making your dreams come true when your resolution is detailed. Write down your goals and break it down, as this will help you figure out the exact steps to get there. So, instead of saying “I want to lose weight”, straight up aim with “I want to lose 5kg by June 2017 and I’ll do this by exercising three to four times per week.”

Be intentional

Focus on the meaning behind your resolution. Perhaps, you desire to be strong and energised enough for that hiking trip to the Himalayas you’ve planned on your bucket list. The ‘why’ serves as the inspiration to achieving that goal, so with a deeper personal connection to the objective, it makes yours more meaningful.

Be reasonable

If you’ve never ran before, you are probably setting yourself up for disappointment if you attempt to hit the ground running every morning or evening without a proper plan. The key is to make small changes gradually – start your training with brisk walking and move steadily into jogging and then running over several months.

Be treating yourself

Nobody said it was going to be easy but when you actually hit those hard-earned points (like the first week you managed to run 30 minutes per session), you should reward yourself. Take yourself out for a mani-pedi, a massage or buy yourself some new fitness gear, these treats can help you reach those milestones faster.

Be forgiving

Fitness goal can be one of the hardest resolutions to see through so don’t be hard on yourself if you falter. After the initial excitement of a new routine has worn off or if you’re not seeing the results you want fast enough, it’s easy to justify taking a few days off. The important thing is not to give up! Get back at it as soon as you can.

Now armed with these tips, we’re giving you a chance to join the Fire in the Sky fitness party happening on Saturday, 14th January at M City, Jalan Ampang to get you in the healthy state of mind.
