Penang Cocktail Week returns for its second year with a grand lineup of bar takeovers and more

Penang Cocktail Week is making a comeback for its second year! The city of George Town, Penang is ready to come alive with this celebration of tipples, slated for 1 to 8 September 2024. The highly anticipated event will bring together some of the region’s most celebrated talent for eight days of cheers and camaraderie.

This year, we’ll see over 80 guest bartenders from 17 cities land on the island for the packed agenda, including bar takeovers, cocktail parties, masterclasses, seminars, and more happening across the city. The star-studded lineup of guests features household names in the bar industry. It includes Coa from Hong Kong, Taichung’s Vender, Maybe Sammy of Sydney, and Singaporean bar Jigger & Pony. As part of its mission to champion bartending, Penang Cocktail Week has prepared a full schedule of activities and events for its guests to enjoy. First and foremost, its Bar Takeovers will put the spotlight on visiting bartenders, who will prepare a menu of tipples to showcase their talent and stories.
As part of the takeovers, there will also be a special Taiwan Takeover on 6 September and the Malaysian Invasion series on 5 September. The former involves six Taiwanese bars showing off their skills at different watering holes around George Town. Meanwhile, the latter will see bars from outside Penang disperse around the island, bringing their cocktails to you. It will also include a very special League of Legends: OG’s Takeover at Backdoor Bodega, featuring Angel Ng, Ash, Loco Rockerfeller, and Shawn Chong—all of whom are icons of the KL bartending scene.

Penang Cocktail Week’s annual bartending competition will be making a comeback in the form of PCW Ford’s Gin Battle of the Bartenders. On top of that, the beloved PCW Cocktail Garden at Hin Market is also back for a second round!
This edition of Penang Cocktail Week also marks the debut of its Bar Banters seminar series, led by leading figures in the industry such as Jay Khan of Coa and Niks Anuman of Teens of Thailand. Also making its first appearance on the schedule is the PCW Party Yacht, which will set sail for an evening of guest shifts overlooking the city’s skyline.
