The city centre just got an izakaya-sized upgrade with the addition of Koka from the team behind Raijin Ramen. This new spot is located at REXKL UP, the latest lifestyle/culture hub to grace the neighbourhood. Stealing the spotlight on the pork-free menu is its selection of fresh-off-the-grill yakitori, which are charred to perfection and perfect for pairing with your highball or sour of choice. Those visiting during lunch hour can also get snacking on bites such as karaage. For something a little more substantial, you can lean on its donburi offerings, including a tendon that is stacked with crunchy favourites.

The Taman Paramount neighbourhood has welcomed Brunei-born pizzeria, 1More Pizza. Diners can expect indulgent yet expertly crafted pizzas to fly out of their ovens, fresh to order, each with its own character. Pizza names here are just as imaginative as its toppings with the likes of  Lucy In The Sky, Toast To Our Differences, Sweet Sensation, and Smoke On The Water lining its menu’s pages. The restaurant’s dough has achieved the perfect light-crispy-chewy balance, but what makes it truly special is its seasoning of Grana Padano, pecorino cheese, and Sarawakian black pepper.

Malaysians who grew up in the eighties to nineties have a very specific perception of what Western food is. This fouding family decided to build an entire restaurant out of said perception and dedicate it to their father who did the cooking during their childhood. At Dear, Patrick, you’ll get the likes of coney dogs, New Zealand lamb shoulder chops, sizzling chicken chop, and more on the menu. Beyond the heaping of nostalgia, it also offers some contemporary plates such as its Lava Fish Mentaiko rice bowl. Those who want to bring their furkids along are also welcome to take a seat in its outdoor space!

Perhaps the buzziest bar opening of the year so far, Lavantha has opened its doors in the chic new Moxy Kuala Lumpur Chinatown. Brought to you by the celebrated team behind Penrose KL, the bar is elegant, sleek, and dim, much like its older sister down the road. The unmistakable Jon Lee influence continues in its menu, as it is organised to a tee with four categories: tall, sharp, forward, and savoury. Whether you’re looking for something complex, umami, sweet, or simple, you’re bound to find your next favourite cocktail at this bar.
