Box KL

First opened in July, Box Kuala Lumpur is a humble new café nestled on the corner of Jalan Hang Lekiu. It is popular among cyclists looking for a quick coffee break, thanks in part to the convenient bicycle parking area right in front of the shop. The menu includes a range of breakfast sets, pasta, sandwiches, salads, cakes, and beverages. If you’re fully vaccinated and ready for dine-ins, catch views of passersby on the busy street outside from the window seats or chill out in the bright blue box as you bask in (almost) a sense of normalcy.

Circle Café, Bukit Bintang

Circle Café is the latest coffee joint in the heart of KL, occupying a 100sq ft shop lot on the corner of Jalan Alor. Despite its tiny space, you won’t miss the café’s minimalist all-white interiors that stand out in juxtaposition to the vibrant street art murals surrounding it. Designed with an open-air concept, it’s the perfect pit stop to grab a cuppa from the selection of seasonal coffee which includes a variety of local and global roasters.

Messy Buffalo, Taman Sungai Besi

Tucked away in the unassuming Midfields Square, Messy Buffalo is home to “Malaysia’s first wood-fire wings”. The restaurant is distinguished by a bright orange sign displaying a buffalo graphic logo, but you’ll probably be greeted first by the fragrant incense of smoked wood if you opt for takeaways. The buffalo wings come in a variety of flavours, grilled on skewers over rubber tree firewood and complemented with a side dip of your choice. There’s also a decent selection of wood-fire pizzas, ranging from classics like Ala’ Margherita to premium options like Wagyu Supremo and Smoke Quack.
