The Barbie movie, or rather, on-set snippets from its filming may have popped up on your social media timelines over the last few months. Recently wrapping up production and slated to premiere next year on the 21st of July, the upcoming film has been one of the most talked-about movies online—and it’s not even out yet! With a stunning cast consisting of Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling playing Ken and assuming his “Ken-ergy“, and notable actors such as Hari Nef, Issa Rae, and the much-loved Emma Mackey from Sex Education, we’re definitely going to be treated to a stellar performance of all things pink, pretty and beautiful…or will we?

Marking the doll’s 60th anniversary next year, the film centres around Barbie, who is expelled from Barbieland for not being perfect enough, and sets off on an adventure into the real world. Just like us regular folk, the blonde babe goes through some real-life challenges and we’re tagging along on an adventure to witness her solve them, and hopefully become a more wholesome person. As we know, Barbie always completes her missions looking stylish and chic. From being on-screen to being on the shelves of toy stores, the one thing that has remained consistent over the years is her knack for looking good. High heels, chunky pumps, tennis skirts, bridal gowns, and even collaborations with famous designers—there are too many fashionable moments to list down!
As listed on CFDA and Time, Barbie has collaborated with some very notable brands and designers, including the likes of Moschino, Burberry, Coach, Dior, Juicy Couture, Karl Lagerfeld, and Ralph Lauren. And that’s not all—we’ve seen real-life Barbie fashion moments, dubbed ‘Barbiecore’, taking place on and off the runways in recent months, from Valentino‘s AW22 Pink PP collection to Chanel‘s cosy countryside lineup, Kim Kardashian rocking all-pink Balenciaga outifts and even a cute retro moment by Anya Taylor-Joy in Dior late last year.
