#WednesdayWishlist: Party gear

Cai Mei Khoo, Editor in Chief: Art collector Dakis Joannou’s mega yacht, Guilty

Transportation of choice for Russian billionaires, Saudi princes and Entourage-types, a yacht has to be the ultimate party gear with swimming pools, jet skis, multiple decks to lounge on, with a different DJ on each, and helipads, should you be flying in to your sailing destination of choice (you’ll make it in time for this New Year’s Eve party at St. Barths that Roman Abramovich is hosting). Covered in a colourful, geometric pattern done in a technique called Razzle Dazzle, Guilty‘s exterior is a Jeff Koons’ masterpiece that’s painted by hand, and at 115-feet long, is also one of his largest pieces of work. The yacht itself is a floating art gallery carrying works by artists like Anish Kapoor, Martin Creed and Sarah Morris scattered throughout. Lavish, fantastical and smells of money? Guilty as charged.

Loh Wei Yeen, Fashion & Beauty Writer: Crystal and daisy headband from Dolce&Gabbana

While everyone’s going to be sporting a party-hat headband during the countdown to 2016, I much prefer donning a fine piece of bejeweled hair accessory (also because I don’t think I pull off a conical hat perched askew on my head.) This Dolce&Gabbana gold-tone brass headband is the only way to deliver class while making a statement, thanks to its embellishments of enamel daisies and gemstone-hued faceted crystals. If there is one place and time to wear this without looking OTT, it’d be when I’m about to make a toast to the new year with my umpteenth glass of bubbly at a lavish NYE party.

Tan Su Fen, Editorial Assistant: Klementina embellished tulle mini dress by Temperley London

Mini dress? Check. Party bling? Done beautifully in intricate beadwork, the Temperley London way. While slinky, formfitting dresses will probably be of an abundance on the dance floor, the comfortable silhouette of this lovely, soft beige number is a lot more appealing to me—easy to move around in and just what I need to accommodate the inevitable NYE feasting.

Jessica Fang, Culture Writer: Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams

Yes, yes, I know, Coldplay doesn’t exactly resonate with the word “party.” But if you’ve had a listen to their album, you would’ve already figured out that they aren’t depressing anymore. Instead, this unusually happy, upbeat and uplifting album seems to be one that’s perfect for the new year. It’s fresh, it’s a total recovery from the band’s previous, most depressing album ever—Ghost Stories—and it’s inspiring just by being so darn positive. And not to worry, there are quite a few danceable tracks in there too. It wouldn’t be so bad to have this album playing while the clock strikes twelve and we all can finally start afresh.
