Just in: Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow to exit DKNY

After less than two years at the helm of DKNY and injecting it with ’90s streetwear nuances that reverberated with the brand’s former glory, co-creative directors Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow are stepping down in light of Donna Karan International’s sale to G-III Apparel Group Ltd from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

“Given the company sale and subsequent change in strategies, we have decided to step down and focus on our own business Public School. It’s been an unbelievable experience to work side by side with the wonderful people at DKNY, especially our amazing design team and atelier. We wish the company success in the future,” says a statement issued by the pair here.

Osborne and Chow’s first outing with the label was Spring 2016, where their riffs on the power suit with deconstructed elements and bold shoulders made more sense with the present day independent woman. While some scoffed the outing as nothing revolutionary, it was evident that the duo respected the ethos of the house without veering too much towards their edgy Public School aesthetic. A year later however, the collections were punctuated with exactly that via punchy silhouettes and oversized sweatshirts with the logomania trend in mind.
