ICYMI: Inside Coach Gurney Plaza’s store reopening with TVB celebs Priscilla Wong and Edwin Siu, Fazura and more

From a star-studded Autumn/Winter’19 campaign, another raved-about Spring/Summer’20 show during New York Fashion Week, to the launch of ambassador Michael B. Jordan’s Naruta-inspired collection, Coach has been on a roll the past year. To keep the momentum going (and to kick-start 2020 with a bang), the brand celebrated the reopening of its newly redesigned store at Gurney Plaza, Penang, and as usual, when it comes to Coach’s events, it’s go big or go home. Local celebrities and KOLs were flown in for the one-night-only event, featuring two special guests: TVB actor and actress Edwin Siu and Priscilla Wong, who are also one of the power couples in the industry.

Below, all you need to know about the store, the event, and the It-guest list:

The store

Spanning across 260 square-meter, the interior of the store was designed by creative director Stuart Vevers in partnership with designer William Sofield. Some of the most distinct features of the store include the wall of Tabby bags in different colours and sizes, the leather atelier corner—a first in Penang—that lets you customise your new leather goods with initials and cute embossed leather tags, and our favourite: the accessories wall with a video on how to style different scarves is played on loop.

Walk deeper into the store and you’ll reach the shoe corner, featuring pink velvet sofas that add a nice pop of colour to the mostly black-and-white interior. At the men’s section, you can find ready-to-wear pieces, leather goods, and shoes from its core and Pre-Spring’20 collections. If you’re in town and have yet to shop for Chinese New Year, you know where to make a pit-stop at.

In conjunction with the upcoming festivities, Coach threw a Lunar New Year-themed party that included a traditional candy cart, customised Chinese zodiac origami, and handwritten calligraphy. After a short speech by VP & General Manager of Tapestry South East Asia and Oceania, Emmanuel Ruelland, Priscilla and Edwin, along with longtime friend of the brand, Nur Fazura, were invited on-stage to officiate the opening, before a lion dance performance ended the night on an auspicious note.

Of course, a successful event is not complete without some star power, and as mentioned, a throng of celebrities and KOLs were specially flown in for the event. Local actresses Tong Bingyu and Debbie Goh, It-crowd including Jane Chuck, Brian See, Kittieyiyi and Juwei Teoh, top models Sheena Liam and Rubini Sambanthan, pageant queens Jacqueline Tiang, Jovane Pang, and Anjoe Koh, singers Alvin Chong, Nicole Lai and more all made an appearance at the event.
