Awards season for the year of 2020 is close upon us! The first awards show of the season kicks off with the 77th Golden Globe Awards on 6 January. But before that happens, let’s take a look at some of the most memorable red carpet looks the show has to date. We dove into the Golden Globe red carpet archives as far back as twenty years for a glance at what was trending way back when. At the turn of the century, bias cuts, rhinestones and low riding trousers were all the rage. And if it weren’t for the time stamps on the photos below, many of these looks could very well be pulled off today—fashion is a cycle after all.
It’s hard to pick our ultimate favourites but Zhang Ziyi in a lime green Monique Lhullier gown at the 63rd Golden Globe Awards in 2006 definitely springs to mind. Same goes with Beyoncé in a gold sequinned gown by Elie Saab, standing tall and statuesque as she was solidifying her career as a solo artist after Destiny’s Child in the 2000s. In the height of the noughties, the power of the Jennifers reigned surpreme with the power trio Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Garner, who repeatedly slayed the red carpet, sealing their status as crowd favourites.
Of recent years, the 75th Golden Globe Awards 2018 will go down in history as celebrities walked the red carpet in black ensembles in solidarity of the Time’s Up movement. Saoirse Ronan, Millie Bobby Brown and Zoë Kravitz managed to rock the muted hue and stand out in a sea of black with their personal styles.
